I have an Mini Albino Dwarf rabbit and he's about 6 years old.

He started sniffling and sneezing a lot and I was concerned and took him to a spec. vet I found (through the Ohio House Rabbit Society) 3 weeks ago. The vet did an exam and suggested placing him on BAYTRIL (4.5cc's x2 a day). He continued sneezing and then began making odd wheezing like sounds and I took him back to the vet the next week and he saw another vet there and they did another exam and an x-ray (to be sure it wasn't pneumonia, which it was NOT thankfully) and then suggested placing him on CHILDREN's BENEDRYL (8cc's x2 a day) as well as the baytril to hopefully stop the sneezing. Also the vet suggested getting a humidifier, as the sounds could have been just him having a difficult time breathing. His teeth are good, so she said it wasnt that. I bought the humidifier as well and keep it near his cage.

Lately looking at his nose after sneezing, its very wet and the mucus is yellow (& kind of smells like his apple flavored baytril medication)

His sneezing is NOT getting any better and frankly I'm a getting a bit frustrated. Its now been 3 weeks, 3 vet visits, high vet fees, more money on a humidifier and OTC benedryl and HES NOT GETTING BETTER.

Should I take him to the same vet yet again? Or just invest in another?

He just isn't himself anymore and its worrying me. I understand the side affects of benedryl is fatigue, but its like hes not active at all anymore. When hes not in his cage, hes just laying there on the floor.

you need to make sure that the vet you are going to knows his/her stuff about rabbits. only 1/10 vets are experienced with rabbits. whenever my rabbits get sick i use penicillin G. you can get it at any Farm&Fleet. but it has to be a shot, do not give it orally!

This vet I've been taking him too was recommended from a rabbit rescue (The Ohio House Rabbit) as its one they use for their rabbits.

@Nancy I live near OSU and Columbus State (I believe they have vet programs?).

Update :

I took my rabbit (Thumper) to a second vet for another opinion and I was much happier with this place. They seemed to know MUCH more than the other and told me things that the other place did not.

They suggested for me to stop the benedryl and baytril as nothing was changing and start him on SMZ and start nebulizing him once a day for a week (then down to 3 days a week) to hopefully clear out any bacterial infection going on.

They said his ears were very clean, his teeth looked great, his lungs sounded clear and overall he seems really healthy and that its probably unfortunately just one of those upper respiratory diseases rabbits get...but can still live with.

Already not giving him the benedryl today, he's much more active and like himself AND he didn't mind getting the new meds, while he hated the others.

I'm hopeful this works better for him.
