Hello, I'm new to the site and hoping someone can help me!
I got a Netherland Dwarf boy a couple of weeks ago and I just love him so much! He is 7 weeks now. I'm looking to get another bunny- maybe a Holland Lop girl (hopefully around the same age). Do I need to keep them separated even though they are so young? I do plan on getting them neutered/spayed when they're age appropriate, but will I need to wait until after that to let them play together?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

oh dear, if you've had him for a few weeks and he's only 7 weeks old he was weaned from his mother FAR too young.

if you do get a rabbit, please make sure you only buy one over 8 weeks of age, as no reputable breeder will sell any younger than that.

also, they should be separated if the are of opposite genders. it's far too dangerous to keep them togehter

Let me welcome you to Rabbits Online, my name is Dave and I am a moderator on the forum. So if I can be of any help please let me know. This is a terrific website for rabbits and their slaves, not only is it very active but also friendly. I am so glad you’re here and I know you will enjoy it.

You will definitely need tokeep them separated. I wouldlook into your local shelters for a bunny and maybe adopting. You could pick out some likely canidates andarrange some dates at the shelter or rescue to see if they will get along.

After you neuter abuck/male it willbe awhile before he can be around a doe. One is because of the surgery and the other isto make sure the hormones are out of his system.

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

If you everhave a sick bunny, please post in The Infirmary and include your rabbit's age, breed and health history as well diet and output details leading up to the problem.

I have listed some links I thought you might find interesting:

*For reference the Library section

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.

Thank you Wabbitdad12! When you say: "After you neuter a buck/male it will be awhile before he can be around a doe. One is because of the surgery and the other is to make sure the hormones are out of his system"....
Does this mean about a month or so?

Keeping them separate..does this mean that I can't have them even play together for 20-30 minutes? Does this mean I should only let one out at a time to run around?

Please help as I am hoping to get a bunny tomorrow!
Thanks!

Yes it takes about a month. The bun should be totally healed from the neuter or spay. The bun will be sore for a while, it will also prevent the bun from tearing out stitches and the incision from getting infected.

A good bunny savy vet will give you more details on how to have a good recovery from any surgery. Make sure you have a vet that is knowledgeable about buns as rabbits do not handle anesthesia well.

It only takes a second for a doe and buck to get together and give you more bunny's then you may want.

wow, only a second? That is pretty scary and I really don't need more than 2 buns. So if I keep them separate, it is ok to keep their homes side by side so they can at least see one another?

Welcome to RO. I would suggest at least an inch between cages. I have heard of rabbits breeding through the bars. They can be determined. They will be happier once fixed so they can be together :)
