She is building a nest....

I have two does that are due to kindle tomorrow.. and one has already started her nest.. actually she started last week! But, she is pulling fur today. I found the nest outside the box, so I moved it into the box.. went back out ad she pulled more fur beside. So, I took the box right out now, put her first nest back where she had it. She can kindle whre her nest is, and then I will move them into the box! Cant wait!! I love how she has started build her nest early this time! Last time, she didn't do it at all and she had babies out in the open.

My lion head is also due tomorrow, so can wait for them!!

Oh, I am very excited! I seem to get super excited each time one of my does is close to kindling. But I haven't had a doe build a nest or pull fur so early.

I'd be super excited too. A few years ago my dad and I tried to breed our champagne d'argents, they bred fine and had big litters, but the mothers weren't at all interested in the babies and the kits didn't survive. Hopefully my netherland dwarf will be better.

I had a doe who had a nice size litter, but unfortunately she killed all the kits. . I ended up selling her this past weekend. I have another doe who had her first litter last June, she had 1 kit who never survived. She then had litter of 4 kits who all survived in August. She had another litter in January which she ate the ears off of and the feet off of one as well. Now she had a litter of 5 two weeks ago and all are doing very well.






The two I am expecting to kindle tomorrow, are 2nd time moms. The one who already has a nest had 5 in her first litter, all were very healthy and have gone to their new homes, and the other had 3 healthy kits who have also gone to their homes. This will be the last litter for both does until fall now.

I do have two does whom I want to get bred soon too, but thinking I may wait until fall as well, I kinda want a small break from kits for the summer.

Yeah I guess you can never really tell if they're gonna be good mothers or not huh?

Exactly. It really sucks not knowing too! Annie my Lion Head has started nesting as well Now just to wait until the morning to see how many she has.

With first time moms you really don't! They sometimes mess up the first time but they usually do much better after that. :thumbup

The one mini rex I ended up selling as a pet this weekend actually canabalized her third litter! I don't know what happened! I got lucky with Annie and Cinnamon though, both had excellent first litters and are both currently on their second. Thn they get a break for a while,

This morning I woke up at 5:30am. Went out to check rabbits, feed, water and of course check for kits! Miss Annie kindled 7 kits, some are bigger and some are smaller, but all look healthy to me!

Cinnamon kindled 8, however, she did have one that didn't make it .

So, we have 14 little ones again. well I guess 19 if you count the 2 week old kits.

Cant wait until they are all hopping around!

I was super happy to see so many of them too!! Annie only had 3 last litter.. and this time she had 7! I was surprised. They do all look healthy, just some look quite a bit smaller than the rest. I guess we will see what happens. I will post pics in a bit.. maybe you guys can take a guess at colors? I am just so impatient lol
