I'm curious about Sage's pedigree. When we bought her, we made sure we looked it all over very good, but at the time, we were only looking at colours, not if there was any inbreed animals or anything. As we were driving home, we noticed that hergrandparents are FULL siblings!

Also, her dad is her grandfather on her mothers side. Her grandmother on her fathers side is her ggdam on her mothers side.....

Is this bad? I think it's messed up, because there are some bad typos.....I'll have to try taking a picture of it and uploading it.

Could this also maybe be the reason why she didn't get pregnant when we first bred her?

ETA: I'm uploading photos of the pedigree at this moment. Also, should I e-mail her breeder and ask about the pedigree? She is young, about my age, but I think 2 or so years younger (and I'm 16). They don't breed often and so I think she may remember her....

Here are the pictures of the pedigree.

I've got a rabbit or two who have pedigrees like that. Personally I don't like breeding full siblings, but I have a feeling there was a good reason for the breeder having done so.

But now that the rabbit is in your possession, there doesn't seem to be any reason NOT to keep trying to get her bred, especially if it's to a unrelated buck. Doing so would be a healthy mating and would "refresh" the genes so to speak.

Hmm I didn't even think of that being the reason as for her to not be bred. It should work though, because obviously some relatives were brother/sister and they were able to concieve, so Sage should.

I would like to add that the breeder of Sage is only 13 or 14.

I would also like to say that if you have only been trying to breed her in the Fall/Winter, I wouldn't hold that against her. I have a very proven doe that has not taken two times I have bred her this cold season. I expect her to take as the weather warms up and the days get longer.

Very good point Clevername. :)

Thanks everyone. :)

With you living in the state you do I believe I know who RD is and she is an extremely good breeder. I love watching her site :D As for the father to daughter breeding that is normal and ok but I personally am not a fan of full sibling breedings.

If I remember properly she bred Mini Rex either earlier this year or last year.
bunnybunbunb my sister said in the post before that we didn't get her from Rebecca's rabbitry. so please don't assume that. she doesn't even breed MRs. I believe she did last year though or maybe before that. But she doesn't now. :)

Shedoesn't breed Mini Rex at all ;) I see her at shows all the time and have never seen Mini Rex. She breeds Lops and Dutch but no MR. I'm often on her site as well, and have never seen Mini Rex on there. ;)

There can be more than 1 RD ;) That's not her though.

I think you got that wrong. She wasn't assuming anything ;)

Breeding full siblings is something done occasionally to help bring out a desirable trait. It can be done without harm, but you have to be careful with it, because if there are any bad traits those will come out as well. I never got brave enough to try it myself, LOL, but a lot of respectable breeders will do it sometimes to help their lines.

Our old West Highland Terriers had pedigrees like that. Bridget, our older girl, had the same grand-mother on both sides! We always wondered why Bridget's daughter, Jenny, was so screwy. We kept her, but as she got older, her features were not those of a Westie! Her ears were floppy, she was bigger than an average Westie, had wavy hair on her back, a "flat" head with long muzzle, and a semi-curled tail. She also had light-brown eyes. All of the females turned out like that, but the males turned out A-OK. We always wondered if it was from the inbreeding way back in the line. She had her pedigree and everything...

I know I didn't mention rabbits, but it has a bit to do with the topic. :)
