I might be getting a Genuine Stella 4t 150cc scooter sometime before I go to college, and I'm suuuuuuuuuper pumped.

Looks like this:

It has all the charm of a vintage Vespa, with all the warranty of a brand-new scooter. I'm pretty much in love with the thing. I'm probably gonna get either that blue, or the Army Green one. Of course, the color doesn't matter that much to me, I could get a black or white one and be just as happy with it. It gets a whopping 100 mpg (the website says 140, but most reviews I've read say it actually gets an average 100 and 140 is only in perfect conditions, but still, WOW.) And isn't it beautiful? ;) I'm in love with it. I DO have a truck to drive around, but it gets like 15 mpg and I don't really need a whole truck for, say, driving to work or school. It's still nice to have for moving furniture and such, but for daily driving, I think a scooter is a smart investment.

Time to start saving my money. :rollseyes

Ever since I was little I wanted a scooter so bad. I just haven't gotten one since I can't really justify the cost of buying it and paying to get my motorcycle license. It might be different if I lived somewhere warmer but its either too cold, wet or snowing 80% of the year. I still want to get one eventually but right now its something thats a want, not a need, lol.

The guy down the street has 2 vespas(a pink one and a blue one) and I always look at them when I walk the dog. He probably wonders what i'm doing, lol.

The one you picked out if really cute. I like the newer vintage looking ones too

Yeah, luckily, the weather is only unbearably cold for me late November to February, so I've got a good 9-10 months a year I can ride it. And this past winter was pretty warm, so maybe even more than that, if the trend continues.

It's really cute!
I'd love a scooter if we had the weather for it here, but it literally rains almost everyday all day.

That would drive me crazy. :( I like the rain, but sheesh, that's a little much. It's the clouds that gets me. If it's cloudy/rainy for multiple days in a row, I get really depressed from the lack of sunlight.

Have always had a truck, and motorcycles too for the same reason. Hard to haul a mattress on the bike, but the truck uses 5 times or more as much gas. Bikes are a lot easier to find a place to park. When I went to college, a lonnnnnng time ago, the bike parking was plentiful and so much closer to every where I needed to get to. Enjoy.

Yup! :) They're both really nice to have. I'm just kinda concerned about what insurance costs might be for an 18-year-old first-time "motorcycle" owner (since it can go over 30 mph, it's legally considered a motorcycle in the state of Kansas, although I'm not sure what class it might be. Surely they wouldn't classify it as a sports bike?) I haven't ever been in any wrecks though, so that's good. And it's only 150cc, so it can't be too expensive, right? I've heard everywhere from $120 a year to $95 a MONTH. I guess it really just depends.

Insurance on it will be hell, but it's super cool. I drive a little truck that gets really good mileage (for a truck...), but I want a bike really bad (the other half said fluff no). I'm totally digging it. As long as you keep a good driving record, insurance will go down. And it will go down as you get older, too. Mine's dropped like ten dollars in the past five years.

The liability part of the insurance is where you get abused--that is the part that all states mandate that you have. I bought a commute bike wayyyyyyy back in 1989, and even with cheaper gas then, still paid for itself in savings in only 4 months. The cheapest insurance I've been able to find was thru GMAC, and am going to check with USAA--I'm a combat veteran but all veterans and their families can get USAA. My son just got a new car and went with them at my suggestion. His insurance is half of what it was with his 7 year old car.

Yeah, I don't want to get bare-minimum insurance, I at least want theft protection because a 200 lbs scooter would be so darned easy to just lift in the back of a truck or van if someone had a friend to help them do it. There are no scooters in the area (I've never even seen one in real life before) so I don't know if that makes it more or less likely to be stolen...
