Is this email legit? It was from an ad on Kijiji for Sonny.

Hello...I do hope the baby mini rex brothers are still available..we would love to purchase both of them..I will call you in the morning as well..they are a christmas gift..my name is Machelle and I live in La Mesa..please contact me ASAP if they are still available...thank you..

I replied saying we only had one left and asked some basic questions. I got this back

Hello Kat...we still are interested in the boy bunny..I will confirm with you by today..hopefully when I contact you he will still be available.thank you Machelle..if you would like to call me my number is ******
Thank you Kat for getting back to me..the bunny is a gift for my boyfriends daughter..he wanted two..however I think one is wonderful..after I speak with him I will let you know..I would love to maybe get him within the next few days..I have your availability..Do you have any cages for sale?..Talk with you soon..He is adorable..perfect size and he will have a very loving home..

I can't tell. Should I respond? If so, what should I say? Any advice would be helpful:)

If the person's specific references (baby Mini Rex brothers) match what you're advertising and they answered your questions, it is probably legitimate.

It might be legit, but in general rabbits as gifts don't work well. I'd sure find out the recipient's age & who will take care of the rabbit if that person loses interest.

Also tell them you only accept cash, then if it is a scam they probably won't reply back.

It sounds legit on the surface, but I would also be interested to know how old the boyfriend's daughter is. I'm not sure how prepared they are for the bunny if they're asking if you have cages for sale.

It sounds legit to me but I would still ask questions. How old the daughter is, how much they know about rabbit care, etc.

if you do decide to sell to them (or even if you just respond to continue the conversation), I'd steer them in the direction of NIC/C&C cages and maybe even use it to jump-start a conversation about free-ranging/bunny-proofing - their responses could be very telling in regards to how the bunny would be cared for.

here are the links I usually give people (here/on yahoo answers) regarding cages:

I don't like the idea of anybody getting a gift for a "friend of a friend". In this case its the child of her bf, does this person know the responsibility in owning a rabbit?? Especially an unneutered male??

Especially considering they just wanted both. Are they aware of what can happen with two unaltered animals? Just because they don't get the other one from you does not mean they will not get it somewhere else.

Oh lol
I forgot to mention that they were both due to be neutered soon:). But since Cher was sold I never got Sonny neutered. And Cher went to a wonderful home with a couple with dogs, a bird, and no kids:). He lives in an NIC condo and has free run of "his room":)
