Safe Wood for hutches and the like

Hi gang this may have been posted before but I need a little help. My boyfriend wants to build a little doghouse type box for our bunnies who play outside a lot in case it rains they have a place to run in and stay dry. problem is I am getting mixed responses on the types of wood that should be used to create this item. Can somebody please give me an idea of the best wood to use that won't harm my bunnies. He is going to Home Depot this week, and I don't want him to purchase the wrong type of wood. Thanks
