Hello! I bought a large used armoire that I plan on repurposing into a new hutch for my minirex Beatrice. However, as part of the wood treatment process, formaldehyde and other chemicals are used that are potentially very harmful if she should chew and ingest any. I don't know what kind of wood it is, but it is solid wood and not pressed. She has never been a furniture-chewer, but I want to cover the inside surfaces of the hutch with something just to be safe. What should I use? I could put up some kind of flooring tiles, or I could also put some sheet, tile, or plank vinyl. I think vinyl would be the easiest, but I want to use something that is safe for Beatrice as well as something that will protect the wood in case of any accidents outside the litterbox, etc. Any recommendations?
If anyone is interested, dimensions are 77" tall by 43.5" wide and 24.5" deep.
Thanks!

I would probably use a solid piece of textured linoleum. I found that the stick on tiles still let urine seep through the cracks a bit, to the wood beneath. With plank vinyl, it looks like it may be too slippery. It's best to use something with a bit of texture to give some traction, and with no joints that allow moisture seepage.

Another RO member converted an armoire a while back. I think they used some sore of plastic bathroom sheeting. Though it did look like it might be a bit slick to me.

Thanks for the link! This should help quite a bit. Yes, slipperiness is a concern as she already avoids hardwood floors at all costs. Right now I have her in a dog kennel. Her litterbox, hay hut, and dishes fit in nicely, but she doesn't have much room. I try to get her outside on a harness and leash every day to make it up to her. I couldn't find any commercially-made cages that I liked. I wanted something with more room for her without taking up more room in my new apartment, so I picked the armoire! I just want to be certain that she is safe and happy. I'll have to be careful with what I choose to cover the inside with also because she will likely find and peel any edges that are left. I don't want to do something as heavy-duty as, say, bathroom tile, but stick-on papery stuff won't exactly cut it. I'm going to visit MagiCarpet or someplace and check out some more options.
