OK, so my mom has a Russian Dwarf hamster named Arnold ("it's not a tumor!") and he DID have a tumor. His tumor was about 2/3 the size of the hamster... It was hanging off of his right side and he couldn't move anymore because it was too big. We almost had him put to sleep... Mom called me the other day and told me his tumor was gone. It is hollowed out and has a scab over it. The tumor felt HARD when you touched it. It didn't feel like a pustule or anything. Is it possible that he ate it? This was a freakin' HUGE tumor! There was no blood or goo in the shavings. Right after mom fed him after the tumor was gone, he ran into the food bowl and chubbed out. He runs in the wheel again (he hasn't been able to for months).

What the heck happened?

It certainly sounds to me like he took care of it himself! Especially because you see no evidence of the remains of it in the cage.

Well, I do know that some small species of parrots gnaw away at any imperfections they find on human skin, like moles or whatever (had this happen to a friend), and the skin heals very readily.
Perhaps it is something along those lines?

I would also think that he would have consumed the detrius from the tumour, maybe as a survival technique (don't want predators finding my blood) sort of thing?

He healed up nice and everything! No infections or anything! He is back to being a happy little ham-ham (minus being still Skeletor-thin). Mom said that he has gained back some weight, but he is still thin. He loves burrowing into his food bowl again. :)

I was thinking of taking him home with me (he lives with my mom, I live 15 minutes away). I figured that I would have more time to watch him than she would. That way, I could try and get some pictures of what's left of his tumor.

That must have hurt like the dickin's!
