Hello,

I have two bunnies, about six months old. One of them is a lot smaller than the other and feels very boney along her spine. In the morning there is a few spots of runny poop in the cage, it is not there any other time. I took a picture but can't figure out how to post it. They get unlimiteded timothy hay and about 1/4 cup of pellets at night. I was giving veggies in the morning but stopped because I thought it might be causing the runny poop but it did not help.

I am going to make an appointment to take her to the vet but I don't think the vets around here are that familiar with rabbits so I was hoping someone here might be able to give me an idea of what they should check for.

Does anyone have any ideas? If you can tell me how to post a picture that would be great too!

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Some people give yoghurt to rabbits, but I don't recommend it since adult rabbits don't process dairy well. There are probiotics designed specifically for pets (Probios, BeneBac, etc.). I never could find where they were sold in my area, so I bought children's chewable acidophilus (cherry flavoured!) from the vitamin store instead.Gus loves it!

Hope that helps!

Try a farm store for horse probiotics or poultry probiotics. The heat can mess up a bunnies system quite a bit. If the one bunny is bony, you may try feeding it a little more pellets, some bunnies the 1/4 cup is not enough.

If they appear to be getting the runs a little more than you are comfortable with get some Duramycin-10 which is mixed 1 level teaspoon to 1 gallon of water and give that for 5 days.It is a mild antibiotic and it helps with "scours".
Warning it does stain the water crocks and bottles it is put in.
