I have two bunnies (two long eared females) which I got as a birthday present this year at about 4 months. They are now about 5/6 months. They were fine together until about a month ago, where they both started fighting and ended up with one in the vet and on antibiotics. They were move down into separate cages and there wasn't a problem since.

But we were dog sitting this week for a giant dog, and while we have for this dog before and we were sure he wouldn't try anything, he'd be sleeping in the same room alone with them, so we moved the cages upstairs.

I had one cage in my room, and one near my sister's to help her sleep better. Rosa, the white bunny, started running around her cage over and over again and running into the sides in the middle of the night. I would bang on the cage, she would stare at me, and then continue doing what she was. That would go on for about an hour, and she would finally give in.

As I go back to school after the October half term break today (Halloween) I asked if maybe Rosa could move to the landing, and we could bring Phoebe, the brown bunny, in my room as I hadn't heard anything from her the past few days.

My mum said yes and we moved Phoebe in my room.

She was quiet and didn't do anything for hours after we did, and that wasn't unusual. Had to get used to the new surroundings, she'd never been in my room.

But at 2 am, she wakes me up doing exactly the same thing as Rosa. I banged on the cage, but nothing happened, she completely ignored me. And what's confusing me is I haven't heard a noise from Rosa outside my door???

I don't know why they've switched roles suddenly now they've switched places.

Sorry this was long, I new here and have never had bunnies before, so a lot is confusing me.

Seeing that both rabbits had the same reaction when individually brought into your room, it seems to reason that something in your room is bothering or frightening them. It could be an odor (maybe of a previous pet?) or it could be a sound (maybe outside sounds or something mechanical near your room- like heater kicking on, etc) or perhaps even shadows and lights pass by your window at night that the rabbits are not used to.

I would discourage you from banging on their cage. That isn't going to comfort them. Try to see what is frightening them because clearly something is.

Or it could be your two rabbits don't like being in separate rooms from each other, even if they don't get along otherwise, and putting them in separate rooms is making them stressed/anxious.
