The first night Mindy worked with us she made it clear she was a welder and stated that the work she was doing was not for her. This was said while Bill (from Plant 3), myself and she were taping big A Heads.
While hanging the big A Heads on the paintline she got mad at the lack of appropriate gloves the company had to offer. She left the line to go to her vehicle to get welding gloves. Fred was not present at the time, but both Bill and I were.
I do not recall what day she started working with us.
At the end of our shift when first shift came in Mindy saw Tina (who works the wheels in Isy's department) and it was apparent they knew each other as they spoke for several minutes in a familiar fashion.
The last day Mindy worked with us, Anna * and Sharon * were braizing. Mindy and I were testing and taping parts. While I dont recall the conversation at the time, at one point Anna looked at Mindy and asked why she (Mindy) didn't like her (Anna). Mindy showed extreme displeasure at this and began cussing, telling Anna that she didn't even know her, while alternatively stating that she saw her as, and viewed her as a daughter. Both ladies did resolve the issue and shook hands.
Once done, Anna left the work area and Mindy once again began cussing while she assumed Anna went to Fred to tell on her. She turned to Sharon and I and asked if she should just walk out or confront Anna when she returned. I said I personally didn't know if Anna was telling on her, as Sharon and her were almost done brazing an order, and Anna could simply be asking about the next one. We resumed working and Mindy asked us again if she should stay or go. Sharon asked her why she should leave, and I said I saw no reason for her to.
Upon Anna's return Mindy began cussing again and once she settled somewhat I did mention to her she may want to watch how she expressed herself, as the company has a strict ethics policy - and though I don't mind how a person expresses themselves, it may be best if she were to watch some of the phrases she uses. Once again Mindy got upset but she quickly quieted down and continued to work.
At lunch, Brandy * asked if I was ok. I stated I was and asked her why she was concerned. She said she wasn't sure ehat had gone on in our department, but the new lady in the Welding room had gone to her asking where Fred was, as she saw Mindy yelling and gesturing and she felt threatened. Brandy said the lady (I don't know her name) stated the woman who appeared threatening was yelling at the "little one" (myself).
I don't recall if the lady repeated this to Brandy, or if Brandy was present when it was said - but Brandy went on to say Fred stated that if they (Mindy and myself) didn't calm down he would escort us both out.
At no point did Fred come to any of us to see what the situation had been about. Shortly after lunch Mindy walked out. After almost 20 minutes Anna brought it to Fred's attention, as he hadn't noticed.
Later in the morning I called Fred over to let him know what had happened in our department during his absence. He said the problem went further back than just that evening, but back to the previous week when Mindy had started. He said she had gone to him stating that someone told her he was hard on people from temp services. He stated that he had asked Anna to listen to conversations in order to find out who was spreading falsehoods, but did not mention whether or not Anna had told him of the confrontation between herself and Mindy.
Tuesday morning Tina (from Isy's department) asked where Mindy was. I simply told her Mindy hadn't returned to work. Tina told me she had hoped it would have worked out for Mindy, but she knew Mindy was bipolar and didn't regularly take her medication and problems often arose from that. I told Tina that I had thought Mindy was a good worker, and that I wished her the best.
Tuesday night Fred took me into the office and we had a long conversation about Mindy. I was told she had left a message with the office, and had gone to her temp service to file a complaint against me, as I had made her feel unwelcome, unwanted and harassed. This came as a shock to me. I told Fred the only thing I could think of that I had done was mention the ethics policy in regards to her cussing. Fred said I had no right to tell her anything and that I should have gone straight to him. He also mentioned there had to be more to it, as Mindy was too upset for that to have been the sole cause.
I recapped the incident that happened between Anna and Mindy. Fred said he knew nothing of that, though we had discussed in previously, on the evening it occured. I can understand his forgetfulness, however, as Tuesday he had a family funeral to attend, and the situation between work and the temp company had come up unexpectedly.
Fred warned me to go through the chain of command if there were problems, and I agreed it would be best. He stated I was walking a thin line, and could not affoard to upset anyone ever again. While he could not assure me of job security he did let me know it would be in my best interest to take break and lunch alone in order to stay out of any conflict and he said he was working on smoothing things over with Sharon * and Angie *, as well as the temp service, so there was no need for me to take things further - he had it under control.
Wednesday night Fred offered no update, nor did I ask for one.
Thursday night I did ask how things were progressing right before lunch. Fred let me know Mindy had been offered a job at our company and had accepted, but she had filed a complaint against me. I asked him if he had spoken to anyone about the entire situation of that night since I had told him of other incidents he hadnt been aware of, but I never received a direct answer. Again, he let me know I walked a thin line and could easily lose my job if one person had another complaint about me - ever.
At the close of our shift Tyler * and I were talking - he had given me a puppy he couldn't keep a few weeks back, but he expressed interest in having him back, and asked me if it would be possible within a week or two. At that point I let him know in very general terms that I am in trouble, and may not have my job much longer. I only made the comment in order to let him know we needed to make immediate plans, to be on the safe side.
Being kind, at the end of the shift when Tyler and Fred were doing their final counts Tyler let Fred know I had been a great help during the night. I was not in the conversation, but Tyler later told me Fred let him know I was close to losing my job, and just one complaint about me from anyone would ensure my firing.
Friday afternoon I placed a call to Sharon *, leaving a voice message asking if we could meet at her convienence. I realize that action went against Fred's strong advice. However, I have yet to be notified by upper management that a complaint has been filed against me and therefore I do not know what is taking place, what representation I am being given, nor when I will have a chance to make my statement.
......
Does this sound too detailed, not enough - to the point but without emotional influction?
I am trying to sort out strict facts - no feelings of right and wrong on my end, though I could really rant about some of that.
