I was petting my rabbit Mac this morning before letting him out of his cage for the day, and I noticed one of his eyes has a slight red tint around it that his other eye does not have. The corner of his eye is very red and it looks a tiny bit swollen. When I gently ran my finger over it he didn't seem to be bothered by it, and other than it looking physically concerning to me, he doesn't seem to show any sort of behavior changes or issues. It doesn't seem to be leaking or anything of the sort. Should I be worried? Or am I just overreacting?

Hi there! Is your rabbit's eye better now? I just noticed the same red rim on my Netherland dwarf's eyelid and don't know whether or not I should take her to the vet. Thanks for your help.

I would try using unmedicated saline solution for a few days to see if it helps (It may flush out anything that could be causing irritation). It could be an eye infection but try that first then take him to the vet if it’s not gone away

Thanks so much for the advice! Today I noticed that the rim of her eyelid is pink not because it's swollen, but because her fur is falling out. It's almost as though the upper rim of her eyelid is balding. Have you heard of this happening before?

It could be from rubbing on something. Does she have a bowl or something that she regularly sticks her head into that it might be rubbing on?

A similar thing happened to one of my bunnies. Only it looked worse, there was a long, swollen pink line near one eye. It looked a bit like the first bunnies picture. She was still eating and everything, but I was wondering how it felt to her, and what I should do, before taking her to the vet, because I would always try other things first. I highly recommend coconut oil, just a little, smeared where it is swollen, but not in the eye. I did this for her and within a few days it was already almost better.
