I am wondering as I appear to have two REW babies in a litter from a siamese sable/smoke breeding who the carrier could be. As much as I remember the albino gene "suppresses" all other pigmentation. Do both parents have to be a carrier for it to surface or is it enough if one parent carries it?

Both parents must carry the gene - and when the offspring get the gene from both parents - they are the REWs.

Consider it like a couch cover that you throw over a couch. The couch you're covering is still striped or patterned (or whatever it was) - but to someone walking into the room - they only see whatever the couch cover looks like.

The REWs can pass on whatever they're hiding to their offspring....which is a good thing.

I can't think of the answer to this one if I were you I would go look at phil bateys website. It's got quite a bit on rew as he specialises in them. Just google Ruskin stud

Thanks Peg and Polly. I'll check out the website.
Is it true that breeders breed REW's into their line because they are often better type? Should I keep any of the REW's although it's really Siamese mokes/sables I want to breed?

Yes they do. So you will find you get some out. Only use them if they are very typey every few generations to avoid to many White hairs.
