We need your help! All Creatures Great and Small is a
facility in Hendersonville, NC that ALDF and other animal
protection groups have been following for some time. As posted
yesterday on the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and
Consumer Service website: "By court order, the North Carolina
Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) has
the authority to direct the removal of at least 350 animals
from the All Creatures Great and Small (ACGS) site in
Hendersonville, North Carolina." The NC Department of
Agriculture is requesting that any rescue organization with
space take in as many animals as they can, as soon as they
can. At last count, there were 284 dogs, 220 cats, 6 rabbits,
and 2 guinea pigs in need of your help. Please note that we do
not have breed information on the animals at this time.

In the hopes that the many of the NC and area rescue
organizations we are contacting can take in some of these
animals, we are forwarding the following link to the
Department of Agriculture website where they have posted
intake procedures:

Aww how adorable. If situations were right I would so love to take in Raven and Melody. Hopefully they could find nice homes.

Im posting their pics in case someone in the area is interested in helping. It looks like they have two bunnies on petfinder, but the post says 6 so Im assuming theres more:

I'm going to call my parents. They live in Hendersonville. They loved my buns when I brought them home, so we'll see. I'll also talk to some others there that might be interested. I hate all creatures sooooo much. Their conditions..... they would make you SICK.

I'm pretty sure those pictures of those buns are old now that I've asked around some. I've talked to a few people who are going to go look though and hopefully adopt! :)

Yay- good work Hazel! Keep us posted and if anyone you know gets some pics of the bunnies there please post them here :)

I realized I never gave an update on this situation:

All of the buns were adopted!! :) The rest of the animals not adopted in Hendo or Asheville or nearby were sent to a shelter in Florida, but the buns were not with them. My friend Heather went to check it out, and all of the rabbits had already been adopted! :D

Thankfully ACGS is finally closed and hopefully all of the animals will go on to better lives and places :)

Hi, I just joined and this is my first post. I am so glad to hear that the rabbits found homes. I had met two of them. I just learned on Sunday that the shelter had closed. I know first hand the horrible conditions that the animals were kept in. My husband and I went to ACGS last April to adopt a rabbit. I was very dismayed that I first had to wade through a sea of miserable looking cats that were stacked in cages from floor to ceiling like a warehouse, to get to the "room" where the rabbits were kept. I can only imagine that this room was once a storage closet. It was small, there were no windows and there were no heat or a/c vents in the room--no ventilation. Rabbits, guinea pigs, and rats were crammed in there, with cages on top of each other. They were sitting on pine/cedar chips. I nicely pointed out that those were dangerous to rabbits and what the good alternatives were. They knew they were bad for rabbits, but said they couldn't afford anything else. Opie and Mary, the rabbits that were still there when the shelter closed, were there when we went. Opie was so sweet and we even held him for a while. We assumed that he would find a home soon because of his personality. We adopted another rabbit that we had seen on their website. He was older than they told us, overweight, with long curved nails. Even though he wasn't very friendly, we wanted to adopt him because we didn't think anyone else would. He was named Cocoa and we kept thename. He was very afraid of people and motion coming toward him, but he slowly started coming around and would even let us pet him. Unfortunately, he was not a healthy rabbit and died suddenly at the vet's office in September. We were very shocked and saddened, and it meant that our Isabel had lost another companion. We are very happy that he had almost 6 months of a good life as a loved house rabbit. Weare pretty sure that thepoor conditions he lived in at the shelter contributed to his problems.

I am so happy to know that sweet little Opie and shy Mary found homes. I have thought of them ever since I heard the news of the shelter closing.

I agree. The conditions at ACGS were horrible. I used to practically cry when we passed by there.

Just so you know, Clancy, all of the animals were seen by vets and cleaned and treated before ACGS closed. All of the vets in the area got together and helped, it was wonderful.
