Hi all,

Sorry I know i've kinda disappeared at lately I just been very very busy with something in my life right now. but anyways I know some people on RO here work and volunteer at the animal welfare, SPCA, rescues and everything else (which is GREAT! I cannot wait to be old enough to do it too!) Last 2 or 3 months i've been collecting money, like lost change and been working my butt of selling dog treats and dog cakes to raise money for my local SPCA. So far I've spent 40$-60$ On things like about 10cans of dog food, about 12 cans of cat food, kibble for cats and dogs (don't you just love saying 'kibble' ?? so american :p ), dog treats, lots and lots of chew toys for the puppies, a few tennis balls, Toilet rolls for the rabbits, 3 boxes of news paper.

I know this might've sound stupid, me doing all this. But I feel strongly that all animals deserve better than best. I'm too young to volunteer so I'm trying to help as much as I can. Although this may not be so big i'm trying my best.

While typing this i realised i need to get some rabbit pellets. There isnt many rabbits at my SPCA so they're not very desprate. I need old blankets and towels but i don't have any at home... gonna go check out op shops (2nd hand shops) tmorrow too they might have some. I ran out of ideas on what to buy. Tomorrow im going 'SPCA shopping' you can call it, more food needed. Should i buy dry food or can food? What else should i buy?

Thanks.

Does your local SPCA have a website? They might have a list on there that specifies what exactly it is that they need. I know the animal shelter here has that on their website.
If not then maybe you could give them a call and ask them for suggestions?

What you're doing is not at all stupid. If everyone had this same mentality towards animals then the world would be a much better place!

:yeahthat:

Not stupid at all P! Good on you! They constantly need towels and stuff, when we were there with Soph and me and Poppy did the days washing and the amount was HUGE and its only a small SPCA.

At the motel where I work each year when we replace the towels we send the old ones to the SPCA, so maybe go along to any local motels or something and see if they haveany of theold towels and blankets to donate? And if not get them to call you when they can.

I would personally say they would needwet kitten food, especially in Aucks where I can imagine they would have alot of stray kitties. Also they use the kitten food for injured birds so It's multifunctional haha.

Thanks guys, I did a huge SPCA shopping spree i guess and bought lots of bunny food, lots and lots of cat food and a bit more dog food, I think i'm pretty happy with what I got so far. WIll be dropping my load to the local SPCA sometime this week. Now the hard question is should I drop it at the animal welfare human society or SPCA. Its hard to choose which.

That's not such a bad idea actually. I am hopefully going to go tomorrow. Should be very fun, last time i went to the spca i was looking for a bunny :) Before I got Toula and Lou

Definitely not stupid, Prisca!
That's great that you're doing that. :)

Last year me and my sister were going to do a fundraiser for a large rabbit rescue in our state, but then never replied to my e-mail about doing a $$ fundraiser. :(

I still would love to do a fundraiser/collect items for the same rescue, but this year I'm going to be extremely busy with school stuff, so maybe once I'm out of school (like this summer) I could get it up again and maybe have it run for a month.

You know what I was thinking of while reading over this thread though? There should totally be a place just like "Good Will" but except just for pets. People could drop off old dog/cat beds, cat trees, dishes, leashes, collars/harnesses, leftover food (maybe?) towels, blankets, etc. And then all the supplies could be rounded up and certain items could go to certain shelters/rescues; or maybe one shelter would get all the supplies from one week's worth of donations. It would depend on how many things got donated, though. ;)

Hmm...maybe I'll start something up like that. :p

There is stuff like that here, but its just a "bin" like where people put in their good etc. Yesterday went really well, had a look at all the animals there, poor dogs there just wanted to have play time. The rabbits ar all just like normal being lazy, got to play with a few that had floor time. I wish I remembered to take pictures! I had the camera in my hand the whole time, just forgot to take tpictures *doh!* Will definitely do something like this again.

I think that's awesome. You might talk to the volunteer coordinator and ask if you can have an exception to the age of volunteering rule because you have pet experience. I know at my place they will bend the rules if you're only a year or so away from being old enough and you know what you're doing. They also let younger people volunteer with their parents or and older friend. It's awesome though that you can help with donations. I think those rabbits need a play pen for exercise time!
