So, in my apartment I'm technically not allowed all the pets I have. I rescued 3 gerbils and 1 hamster from bad situations, and already had 2 old boy gerbils. I hate to just "give up" on my pets, but some of these I had meant to adopt out so I didn't get in trouble if the landlord were to come in. I didn't intend on adopting out my older gerbil boys but I did. It was bittersweet.
My boy gerbils were developing tumors, and I knew of a vet student couple who wanted some gerbils but didn't want young ones, so I told them they could have the older boys if they provided their medical care for the rest of their lives. Both the vet students want to specialize in small exotics, so they basically get to help with the surgeries and have them done at cost. They are going to spoil the boys and look forward to helping them live a longer life that I couldn't provide.
As for the hamster, I had intended to rehome her but she was looking bad for a while during the winter. She started looking healthier and I was contacted by someone who wanted to help out any old critters in need, so she adopted the hamster from me a few weeks back.
The gerbil girls get to go to their new home tomorrow. I took them in from a bad situation (which I posted about before) and was on the fence about rehoming them, but with a potential stressful move in the future and me working full time I decided that for their best interest, going to a new home where they get held more is for the best. They are hopefully getting adopted tomorrow!
This leaves me with no small critters, which is odd. But I still have my two bunnies that I'm working on bonding. As said before, I hate to rehome the critters but it beats stressing them all out with a long drive in a car when moving, especially when most of the small critters were old and might not do well. Just thought I'd share my thoughts on rehoming them and that you guys don't think I'm a meanie for not keeping all my critters till their dying day.. I feel bad, but I feel good about the homes they went to, so it makes me feel much better about my decision.
