Does anyone know how to get a large red wine stain out of a nice light coloured carpet. Hubby was talking too much with his hands and spilt it all over the carpet.

While I'm on the subject of stains does anyone know how to get deoderant stains out of white shirts/blouses?

Thanks

Susan:)

I always thought you were supposed to use white wine to get red wine out. Don't know if thats true though. If it it, white wine vinegar might work. You would probably need to use that to get rid of the stain then clean it with soap to get rid of the white wine vinegar!

I've heard to use salt. Pour regular (none of that low-sodium crap) salt all over the stain, let it sit for at least an hour or so, then the stain should lift up.

And, I found this online at http://www.howtogetridofstuff.com/stain-removal/how-to-get-rid-of-red-wine-stains/
Patty’s Foolproof Red Wine Stain Removal Formula

Mix 1 cup water with 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide, then add a little bit of soap. Regular dishwashing detergent works, as does soap made for specific materials so use whichever soap is appropriate for the task. Put the solution into a spray bottle and apply it directly to the stain. Watch as the combination of soap and hydrogen peroxide turns the red wine stain clear immediately!

This doesn’t actually remove the wine from your clothing and carpet; it just removes the color from the wine making the stain invisible. Incidentally, this formula works on more than just wine stains, we’ve tested it successfully on cool-aide, coffee, and tea stains as well.

We recommend that you send any clothing you treat through the wash immediately after treatment to keep the peroxide from bleaching your colors. If you applied this to non-white carpet and you don’t have a shampooer or wet-vac to rinse the peroxide out, blot the area dry with a towel, follow up with a spot cleaner and blot the area dry again. Repeat that last step once more.

For the shirt/blouse have you tried Oxyclean liquid? I works wonders! I use that and I use the Arm and Hammer with Oxyclean laundry soap. I have a shirt soaking in a bit of oxyclean liquid now where it got something on it. We have very sensitive skin and I have to be careful but we've had no problems with those at all.

The carpet.... That is a scarey one!

I am not sure if you can get "Holy Cow" in Canada, but this stuff is AWESOME and has removed every stain that I have ever ran it over. I don't know about wine, though.

I've used the dish-soap-and-peroxide thing once, it took a whole lot of red wine right out of a white blouse, you couldn't even tell I'd spilled anything. I just got some cheap Dawn dish soap (the "classic" kind), and mixed about half and half with peroxide in a small bottle. Worked like a charm.

I've heard that about white wine too... although it seems like such a waste to me! Especially when wine has already been spilt lol! :p

I don't know if you can get a product called '1001' over there, but if you can, i't s AMAZING. Has removed many a red-wine stain for me....

Plain seltzer/carbonated water is supposed to be good. Pour some plain fizzy water onto the stain and blot out, repeat. The air bubbles are supposed to bring the stain substance up to the surface.

I'd try that first, if it doesn't help, try the hydrogen peroxide with dish soap approach. Just fyi, hydrogen peroxide is bleach, just very very very diluted form.. so if you add dishwashing detergent it also contains bleach and will make it more likely to bleach the carpet, so if your carpet is not white, I would stick with hydrogen peroxide and liquid soap instead of adding the dishwashing detergent that way it will lighten the stain without risking bleaching out the carpet color.

Amazon.com sells an enzyme-based stain remover that has really high reviews, I can't remember the name!

Yep, I get the carpet stuff in OxyClean also. It amazes me how much it will get out on a pair of jeans that a sheep has drug a kid through the grass in or a kid gets hoof polish and showsheen and everything else you can imagine on!
