Hi I’m new to this forum and I just wanted so reassurance/advice about my bunny.

A quick background: she stopped eating during the week, went to the vets a few times and it turns out it was probably her teeth. The vet suspected there were spurs at the back as there were a few she could see at the front. Obviously this would require an anaesthetic and my rabbit, Crunchie, is 9 years old so we knew this was risky. With the help of the vet, we decided to try and give her a chance. She had the surgery, almost didn’t make it, but pulled through. That was two days ago and she’s still not eating much herself.

We are giving her recovery food as per the vets instructions and she did have hay and a small amount of veg last night but this morning she won’t take anything. The vets checking in with us tomorrow again to see how she’s doing. I just don’t know how far she should have come by now.

I just wondered if anyone had any experience with recovery at this age? She has had surgery before when she was younger and didn’t fair well after and I’m just a bit worried that maybe she won’t get back to normal this time.

thanks for anyone’s help and advice, it’s much appreciated.

Is she getting pain medicine? If not, that is probably why she is not eating. I would ask your vet for Metacam when you come by. After the pain medicine, she should quickly start to act better.

She’s got metacam. She seemed better after that and has been eating a bit more today but she’s got a bit of a sniffle now. Could this be from the anaesthetic? She’s seems fine in herself and has been eating a bit more today.

The sniffle is probably from being under anesthesia. I would call your vet about the sniffles because they may need to examine her.

The vets calling and checking up with us tomorrow as they are closed today so we’ll update her tomorrow about the sniffles.
Thanks for your help
