I'm looking for rabbit breeders who breed mixed breeds. My bunnies are all from the same two parents. The mom was a Dutch and the dad was a Lionhead. I don't really like any of the pure breeds. I just think the Dutch/Lionhead mix is absolutely perfect and I can't imagine owning any other breed.

Maybe I could ask a rabbitry that breeds Dutch and Lionheads to do a mix-up for me? Would that be possible? I guess it doesn't hurt to ask...

I think this belongs in the Rabbitry & Showroom.

However, I don't think a rabbitry would do a mix-up for you, because sure, they'll sell 1 or 2 to you, but then they are left with a whole mixed bred litter that nobody wants.

Could you adopt from a shelter? They are mainly mixes in there, and that would be much more reasonable than asking a breeder to do a mix-up for you, (if they would even agree to it, which is highly unlikely) and then having several babies without a home, just because you wanted that specific cross.

Have you done research on all the purebreds? Maybe you could find some that you do like, and go to a local rabbitry and see them in person? You might fall in love with them. ;)

Dutch/Lionhead mix isn't a breed... ;) It's just a cross, so you haven't really owned an actual breed. Why not look into purebred Dutch, or purebred Lionheads? That's both of what are in your bunnies, so they would have the same personalities, etc.

There are sooo many mixed breeds around over there, there really is no need to ask a breeder to mix breed for you. I'm sure if you looked on websites like Craig's list and Pet Finder, and tried local rescues and shelters, you would find a dutch/lionhead mix.

there are no guarantees that another bun that was half dutch and half lionhead would have the same personality as ur bun does now....every single bunny that i have met is dif..their personalities are deeper then just who or where they came from...
ask anybody on this forum who has sibling bunnies and they will tell u that they have different personalities.

Just another note to consider:

If, by some far stretch of the imagination, you found a breeder willing to do a mixed breeding just to meet your needs of a mixed breed bunny- DON'T buy from them. No one willing to do that is reputable.

If you prefer a mixed breed, just keep searching shelters. The right one will find you. :)

Thanks. All of mine are siblings and they do have different personalities but I think the Lionhead/Dutch is the perfect cross. I looked at all of the purebreds and I haven't found one I like. I don't really like the Pure Dutch and Pure Lionheads. Oh well, I'll look for mixes in shelters then.

For future reference, you should post in the Rabbitry, you'd get more responses there, I'm sure.;)

If I'd seen this before I would've moved it to the Rabbitry and let u know. Since after the fact, you did get answers, it shall stay. Just sayin. The Rabbitry is a great place to post breeder qs;).

what is it about the cross that you think is much better then any other rabbit?

and like someone else said, no breeder in their right mind will just cross.
