Last week I started to see Toby nod off. He'd be lying in a bunny loaf position on the floor, or in his hidey box, head rested on the ground. Then the eyes start to slowly get smaller. Then his head starts to nod in one direction ever so slowly... Then he'll realize he's falling asleep and snap his head back to the 12 o'clock position. Once he nodded so far that his head was almost at 9 o'clock. He had me so nervous for a moment because I had never seen him at that angle before.

Since seeing it that first time I've seen him do it a couple times more. Each time I'm sitting right there in front of him, watching tv and he is watching me. I must be boring him :p

Do your buns nod off in front of you?!

My rabbits don't do that where their head goes down. But I will be right in front of them talking to them and they will slowly close their eyes. I swear they do it to ignore me. There is no way they are falling asllep while I am talking to them. I try to tell the "Hey, I know you are not asleep!" and they ignore me and their eyes are still have closed. I swear mine do it as a I don't have to pay attention to you and so I am going to pretend I can't see you or hear you.

Though with Toby's head actually nodding off, I would bet he is really falling asleep. I think that is a good thing. He must feel very happy, relaxed and comfotable in his environment. I wouldn't take it as boring, I would take it as he feels safe to let his guard down.

LOL your bunnies are funny :D

Now that I think about it, you must be right. Toby never used to do this when he lived with Kirby in the rabbit room. In fact, he would sleep but often pop awake as if startled by something even if nothing has happened. He was always agitated being Kirby's neighbor. He has only started to do this recently; he now lives by himself in the living room. He gets a lot more human exposure there and he watches me watch tv all day and he watches tv too, actually. He's so much happier in general these days that it almost doesn'tsurprise me that he would nod off. I just never thought a prey animal would get to that level of comfort with their human! It's one of those "I'll believe it when I see it" type things

I have heard folks like JadeIcing say her bun Apple fell asleep on her lap or something, and it strikes me as incredible! I suppose if they're just that relaxed, it's possible to chill out and just have a snooze :hearts

Haha. That sound so funny!

Lately I've seen Otto twitching and dreaming in his sleep. In a bunny loaf, he'll have his head almost on the floor. His eyebrows will twitch, his mouth will move, it's so funny.

Actually, rabbits do sleep with their eyes open. If he looks really relaxed and his nose stops twitching, and his breathing is slow, he's asleep.

They do, but not always. Deep sleep eyes are closed, I've seen it many times. I call it out like a light, haha. What about the bunny flop? That is the cutest! Snuff just did it the other day, hadn't seen it in forever, adorable!

Toby does bunny flop on his side completely when he is really sleepy. He does it in his hidey box, and when he flops, he'll even wiggle a little bit as if to get comfy or scratch an itch... Toby is a very cute sleeper! He does twitch in his sleep sometimes, not all the time. His eyes usually close a little bit and he looks very relaxed. A couple times I caught him with eyes totally shut.

Toby's the only bun in my householdwho sleeps this deeply and comfortably. He's never known a bad day in his life, so I think he has good, cute, sugary dreams

I notice that Otto sleeps deeply a lot, even in relatively exposed locations, because he's so comfortable here. Hannah's only been here a month, so I never see her full out sleeping. She'll flop, but immediately roll back onto her tummy. She's a pretty alert sleeper.

we have the queen of sleeping rabbits. Check out the avatar--that is Nikki sound asleep on her back with all four feet in the air. She used to sleep in her hay rack when she was small enough. but, she can and will sleep anywhere in any room at any time.

 Our buns definitely enjoy scaring the bejeezus out of us... couldn't have said it better myself! When I suddenly looked down on the carpet and saw Toby laying there, with his head turned to 9:00, eyes closed slightly, the dreaded Head Tilt and all the horrible things with it raced through my mind. I think I died a little in that moment. But then he, of course nodded off, and snapped back to 12:00 and I was able to breathe again.......... Sheesh!

Pipp sleeps in the bunny loaf position with her eyes glazed over but wide open. And she rarely flops -- or I should say she flops almost daily once at the same time, but its more of a roll.

But the other night, she actually flopped and stayed there. She even seemed to have her eyes closed.

I thought, wow, after almost six years, she's finally learned to relax!

But I moved the camera angle up a bit...

Her record of never really sleeping is intact!

But nodding off is quite rare around here, I must say. Only one of my bunnies used to do that, and I forget who. But I'm sure its something that comes with finally being totally comfortable in their environment. :)

sas :bunnydance:
