I can't figure out a better name for my blog, so lets see how this works!
This is a blog about my rabbits and their various antics.
First, I'll start by introducing myself and my rabbits: My name is Christina, I live in Maine, and I love animals!

< that's me with one of my dogs. We've had rabbits since I was little, but then, there was a several year gap from owning them, so I was dying for another bunny! Thats when I got my beloved Cocoa for Christmas 2 years ago. i believe Cocoa is a mini rex or rex, but I'm not sure. She is incredibly sweet, and i love her so much! She loves food and could eat all day long if i let her! She's a tough girl; she's escaped before and survived for more than 2 weeks! She always comes back to us happily, and we are extra careful about keeping her confined!

< this is me with cocoa the day i got her!

One day, Cocoa went missing! I was so devestated. She was gone for awhile, so sadly, we presumed her gone forever. I was very upset, so my parents decided to let me get another bunny. So we researched until we found an ad for some baby bunnies in Maine. We drove down to a farm, played with baby goats and chicks, then went to the bunnies. I had seen a picture of a beautiful dwarf lionhead in the ad and inquired about her. The man there put her in my arms, and it was love at first sight!

As fate would have it, my little brother fell in love also fell in love with another rabbit, so we brought him home as well. I named my bunny Lily, and Sean named his Ranger. They are so much fun!

Lily clearly trusts me the most as she doesn't like other people holding her except me. This bond would be very good when she had her babies: she trusted me and eventually, everyone else.

Thats all for my first post, sorry it's a little picture heavy! :)

So, as I had said before, when we got Lily and Ranger, Cocoa had run away. So, we were just pulling into the driveway with our new baby bunnies on our laps when who should come strolling out? Cocoa! We quickly recaptured her safely. It was like she was just waiting until the perfect moment to show herself to us! Needless to say, we were shocked to find her completely healthy and unscathed. So, now, we had 3 bunnies! :D

About a year or 2 later, (this past April i think) Lily and Ranger bred, and Lily had 4 babies. All four died. I had done so much research to learn how to raise newborns, i was all prepared, but still, they died. I was so so upset because I felt like if we had gotten there sooner, we could have helped them. But nothing could be done. We were very upset and i never wanted to breed bunnies again, because, we had had a failed litter with our other rabbit who died, Quinny.
My dad surprised me by saying he was taking me out to get another bunny since we had lost the 4 babies. I think felt even worse for me because he knew how hard i had worked to research and prepare. That day, I came home with my beautiful agouti colored rabbit, Pockets! she's just so sweet and demands your attention.

Pockets settled in nicely to her hutch. She is a wonderful rabbit and we love her very much!

After a long time of having Pockets, Lily escaped and broke her cage! My dad caught her late at night, but since her cage wwas broken, she had to share Ranger's cage for the night. At this point, i did not want my bunnies breeding, but it was too late! :) We weren't positive if Lily was pregnant, but I knew i had to prepare for it. I did tons more research and learned and memorized everything I could about newborn bunnies. On day 28 of her pregnancy, I went to put a nestbox in for her, but she had already made a nest out of hay in her cage. It was warm and deep, and lined and covered with soft fur. I gently poked around to make sure there were no babies, then, I tried to move her nest with my brother and dad to the nestbox. I figured it would be better if she had babies in the nestbox. While we were moving the nest, Sean felt something bump his hand. apparently, 4 baby bunnies were hiding at the bottom of the nest. I didn't know what to think. Were they dead? Would they live? I checked them every day, and they all lived. I was so wildly happy, and couldn't help checking on them very often.

We've got a bullmastiff! He's in the 1st pic. He is a big, lovable, slobbery monster who loves to chew everything! ! How do you handle a great dane AND a bullmastiff!? :)

Great pics anda how amazing that cocoa came back and was waiting for you!

I know! We thought she was just waiting for the perfect time to make her grand appearance to us!! :D

Soon, our babies grew and grew. Here are some more pictures of them playing inside and outside:

Jumping to present day, the babies are around 8-9 weeks old. We sold 2 of them, and kept the black one and the brown one with the white stripe on his head. We name the brown one (who is a girl) Tasmanian Devil, but we call her Taz or Tazzie for short, and we named the black one (also a girl) Pepper. Pepper is the more adventurous one, whereas Taz is more calm and likes to just relax. Both bunnies love to be held and handled, which was why we liked them so much and chose to keep them. i am building an NIC condo for them with a divider so they will each get lots of room!
Just a question: What do you guys think of rabbit harnesses?
