Hello to all!!

Newbie rabbit owner here with a question! :)

Our rabbit uses a litter box, but she urinates just outside of the box. At first, we thought that maybe it was too small(we were using a small cat litter box, which is what they were using where we had gotten her), or maybe it was in the wrong location. I movedit more towards the back middle of the cage, which is where she was going, but that didn't help. I went out today and purchased a larger corner rabbit litter pan in the hopes that this would help, but she still is going just in front of the pan in the back middle of the cage.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is this something that we can work on to correct with her, or will she always be doing this?

Also, she is approx. 4 months old now. We are planning on getting her spayed soon.

Thank You!!!

Spay/neutering and age has an awful lot to do with litter habits. If she hasn't been spayed yet, I wouldn't wonder why her litter habits aren't great until after she's already been spayed for a few months. I wouldn't expect much out of a young and unaltered rabbit.

That said, maybe it's hard for her to get in to the litterbox? Just a thought.

Could she be sticking her butt over the side and going or is she sitting outside the litter box and going? I know mine have urinated over the side a few times.

Are you using bedding in her cage? That may be confusing for her, if you are. Don't use bedding. Use nothing or cardboard on bottom of cage.

Soak urine up with paper towel and put in litter box.

:) April
