My rabbits have seemed to be dropping dead all of a sudden, we had 6 and now we only have 1. Is it possible does anyone know that the cause of death is shock, as these past few days we have been looking after a relative's dog. The dog hasn't been anywhere near the rabbits but is it possible that his presence could have scared them. The one remaining rabbit left is a baby one, who was in the hutch when it's mother and sibling died, how long for I don't know as I am unsure of their time of death, but it is still alive. Just wants some answers really before I take the little one to the vets tomorrow
Thank you

I'm sorry for your loss.

No, the dog definitly isn't the cause. Rabbits can die from shock, but only if they get freaked out thoroughly and have to fight for their lives, like when they are attacked by a predator.

Have the rabbits been vaccinated against RHD? This would be my prime suspect.

Yes, RHD1 or RHD2 would be the most likely cause if they weren't vaccinated and you aren't seeing any outward symptoms of GI problems(bloat, diarrhea, mucous/jelly poop). If there are GI problems, then I would say probably somethings wrong with their food, water source, or if they get free range in the garden, a toxin.

As the other say, Europe have the problem with RHD1+ 2 and myxomatos. I know uk no longer belong to eurooe.

Specially during spring and summer time they will spread easily among bunnies because of mosquitoes. So it’s a big chance they might have gotten it, because so many of your bunnies have died. During such a short period of time.

So I don’t think it’s the dog, my bunnies often come in contact with dogs and cats. Even though they become scared sometimes, they will just hide in their house.
