Rabbit Poo!!

Hi there

Recently my bunny has started to havelot of 'good' poos andtoday when I looked some where quite soft and almost runny. Ihaven't changed his diet he still gets as much alfafa hay as he likesand then we give him some dried food as well.

He seems quite happy, doesn't look ill and is still very playful. But I am very worried incase he does get ill.

Is there anything I can do/give him to stop this?

I think you will find that its the alfafa, how old is he?

 

I would take himoff Alfalfa and switch to Timothy hay,limit pellets for a few days , give allthe Timothy hay he will eat andmaybe add a few flakes ofrolled oatmeal . . It shouldstraihgten ronhd in a few days .Sometimes alfalfa is a bit too richas the rabbits get a bit older.

Hi Debbie, I agree with gypsy, cut back on the alfalfa hay and cut backthe pellets just a little, make sure bun has plenty of water, and watchfor any changes in his behaviour and poopies, if his poopies get toorunny I'd get in touch with a vet, I may be jumping the gun but themoment I hear or see runny poos I get a little jumpy.

How long has your bunny been like this? Watch for those poopies, like Isaid if they get too runny you need to act quickly as runny poopies canlead into diarrhea which is not good.

Hope you get some firm poopies soon.

Hi there

Thanks for the advice. I will switch his hay over straightaway, it must just be coz he is getting a bit older now coz it neverused to have this effect on him.

Some of his poos are still like normal so that's a good thing. I will keep a very close eye on him!!

If some of his poops are normal and some runny,then it definately sounds like too much protein. It'swreaking havoc with his cecal poops. Switching to grass(timothy) hay will go a long way towards helping him. Whenhe's used to timothy hay, you may also want to switch his pellets toones made with timothy instead of alfalfa. Oxbow and Kayteeboth make timothy pellets.
