This isn't exactly an urgent problem, but it's just something I've always wondered about. My 4 1/2 year old Dutch/Dwarf rabbit mix sometimes licks things, like the objects I've stated in the above description. I read somewhere before that rabbits may lick their human companions, sometimes as an affectionate symbol of their love. But at times, if I softly scratch his ear for him, or give him the rabbit form of a dog's butt-scratch, he tends to lick my bed, clothes, rug, etc.

I was just wondering... does this mean he likes being pet/scratched? It means he enjoys it?

Thanks in advance!

Jamie licks me, usually if i have a something like asoft cotton knit item one. i think it's kinda like grooming. he loves you:biggrin2:

This is just my interpretation of it based on my four rabbits. It means he loooves it so much that he gets so excited that he doesn't care or doesn't look where he is licking! He gets so into the scratches that he just licks! Har har! Sort of funny if you think about it. Take it as an extreme complement and act of love. Like a silly puppy. That is what rabbits remind me of sometimes. Silly puppies. Like my two, Oreo and Miley when they even think that you are giving them veggies! Veggies? Ears perk up. Goes up on hind legs. Sniffs. Bolts over to the Mamma, often going over her foot before it even hits the ground. Then racing back and getting in the way of the other foot preventing her from actually coming into the room so she can put the veggies down. Circles, circles, racing around and around!

Ah man, talking about this really makes me miss my rabbits. I can't wait to go home and pet them and give them scratches. I loove those kisses!

Yep! Definately a sign of love! Also, if they lick your clothes/ things surrounding you, supposedly it means that they are paying you a non-direct compliment- i.e they love you so much they'll just kiss anything that's vaguely near you! :p My Chalk kisses me a lot- if you put your nose up to the cage, she'll hop over and kiss it. Last night she escaped upstairs while my partner was asleep, jumped on the bed, jumped on him and licked his nose! Then she spent ages licking his pillow lol.... Silly bunny!

Check out this link, it's great, loads of good rabbit behaviour stuff! :biggrin2:
