My Flemish rabbit will be 12 weeks next week and will be getting spayed. The vet she is going to was recommended for rabbits. Do I need to have her tested for anything while she is there?

Can you do such a big procedure on a young doe. I always though you had to wait a bit longer for doe to at least 6 months until you spay them. While bucks can be neutered around that age, because their procdure will not be as painful and have that many risk.

At least make sure you get pain medication and have a lot of favorite food she like at home. Make sure to have syringe and critical care and let her eat a lot before the spay. Let her have hay in the travel cage and have a clean and calm area she will spend her time in. So no furniture she can jump onto in the space she will heal.

The vet should be doing a health check up to see if everything's okay before they do the spay ☺

Thank you for your response. I had not looked into it and called the vet for what they recommended...which makes me want to look around. Thank you.

Also, what country are you in? Vaccine recommendation vary per country (from none to necessary ones).
I live in the United States in the midwest...in the suburbs. We have a wonderful veterinary school and unfortunately the veterinarian who specializes in rabbits just retired. A local vet was recommended by multiple sources. I will likely postpone her surgery and will call in the morning. She is indoors. We have an exercise pen she goes in

We have an exercise pen she goes in and she isn't around animals but they are in our neighborhood so she does have some risk. Mainly indoors.
