Well I had an appointment with the cardiologist today and it turns out thatI have sleep apnea. This would be why my heart has been working harder. Anyway, not that great to have but at least it explains many things. I will find out more about it next week when I have my appointment with the pneumologist. :)

Did they do a sleep study? or how did he find out?

My sister has that and I think I do. Sis has to sleep with a machine that keeps her breathing.

My grandmother has sleep apnea, she didn't realize she had it for years. It seems to be pretty easily fixed. So hopefully that's the only problem!

Yep we did a sleep study. I knew something was not right with me being so tired but I must admit I never thought I had sleep apnea. Ah well...

Actually treatment isn't all that easy. Treatments usually involve oxygen, oral pieces, surgeries, decongestants, etc. It depends how on how serious you have it. I don't have many apneas during the night but it is harder on me than on others. I don't think the doctor will do any specific treatments until he sees if a weight loss helps first. Hopefully, that will work.

:)

I'm just glad they are on to something for once in 5 years :p

Maybe get a second opinion on the treatment.

My sister had the worst sleep apnea they had ever seen when they did her study.

she smokes HEAVILY, she's overweight, she has insulin resistant diabetes

They woke her up after she was asleep for less than 30 min and stopped breathing like 8 times! and the last time she wasn't waking up very quick at all.

She has the decongestant (nasal spray) and oxygen (it's an airpump with a mask) and then the air is sort of forced into your nose.

I used to know a lady who worked at the company who makes the pump or apnea machine - and she told me about them and I realized how bad my sister was.

They said I saved her life basically when I made her go to the doc.

Anyhow - if you want to get drastic, they can do something with the back of your throat but seriously - if you can handle the mask - that's the way to go.

My brother has it too! He hates his mask as he works away a lot and its a hassle to travel with it.

So! He went on a diet (so far he has lost over 3 stone....) and things are slowly improving for him.

I hope you find wearing the mask improves your life!

:big kiss:
