I didn't worry about this in the past because I wasn't trying to do big shows, but things have changed.

So, I am getting a bunch of Harlequins in the next few weeks. Most of what people had left are all Junior Does. And I want to say most were born in June.

Come next year when they are old enough to breed, since everyone will be a first time Mother I am a bit worried about loosing lots of litters. That being said, how long does each of you wait to rebreed, out of curiosity?

Also because I'm curious, after she has a litter and raises it and weens all the young, how long do you generally wait to rebreed?

and thanks everyone

I have dwarf breeds and like to start them right around 6 months, and never later than 8 months.

I don't rebreed right away because I like to show my rabbits too. But if I were only worried about production, I'd rebreed as soon as the doe were back in condition. Some does can have two litters back to back and then get a break, some does need a break after every litter. It depends on the doe.

If a doe loses her litter she is bred back immediately in my barn as long as she is in good shape to breed. If I have a brood doe that is in good shape when she weans her litter at 8 weeks she will be rebred then. If she needs a break I will assess her in a couple of weeks to a month.

I rebreed a few months after weaning. It usually depends on what is going on, like shows, my personal life, sales, etc. because that reflects into my breeding plans. I usually let does have 2 litters a year, though.

If a doe loses a whole whole litter I will rebreed her within a few days.

I breed within a few days to a week after after weaning by 8 weeks.

If the babies die after birth I rebred her within a day depending her condition.

I rebred the doe again when the babies are weaned (7-8 weeks) again depending on her condition. If she not in good condition I would rebreed her in about a month or two.
