As many of you know, Eli was treated for mites on Thursday with an Ivermect shot.

It seems to be helping which means all 3 bunnies would have to go intothe vet for shots next time and I can see that vet bill being close to$100. I really don't have that kind of money especially since I wouldhave to take the bunnies back to the vet for another trip after thatfor another dose of Ivermect.

Can I buy the Ivermectin paste and treat all the bunnies with that? What about Eli? Is the shot basically the same as the paste? All Iwould do is wait 10-14 days (I believe that's right) and give him a peesized drop and then wait another 10-14 days abd give him his last dose, right?

I was just wondering if it's ok to just useIvermectin paste on Eli for 2 more doses or if I should stick with theshots. I'm not sure if they are the same or not. I think they are but Idon't want to give him the paste when it wont help as much as the shots.

I have never had a problem with mites, however,do not give the paste to the one who got the shot because that would beover-medicating it. Sharon

Ididn't mean NOW. I meant give him thepaste in 2 weeks time instead of going back to the vet for a secondshot. I just thought I'd finish up the last 2 doses with the paste andsave alittle money on the vet bills.

I don't know the ratio of the shots vs. thepaste, MBB, but will look into it and get back to you unless someoneelse answers first.

I did bump up the Ivermectin paste dosage and cautions. I know a lot of breeders treat all their rabbits if one has them.

How much was given on Thursday and what's his
weight?

I understand what you're saying and I'll ask Kathy Smith.

Good Question, MBB. :)

If it's the same stuff I might as well just buya tube and treat all 3 with it in the right time intervals. I don't seethe point of pay $200 for 2 more vet trips if they're only going togivethem Ivermect shots if it's the same as the paste and Ican just do it myself at home for much cheaper.

Thanks for asking Carolyn, I'm not in a hurry or anything. Eli isn't due to have another shot for another 7-11 days.

His weight was 2 lbs 5 onces whens he weighed him. I don't know howmuch was given, it was in the syringe and I was busy trying to keep himcalm. The vet only said to come back in 2 weeks time for a second dose.

I understand completely, MBB. I'd like to see you save the money if possible as well.

Kathy has been studying the effects of Ivermectin. I left a message onher machine and when I catch up with her, I'll let you know what shesays.

You know I'd do anything I can for Eli. He and Fauna would've made anadorable babies, however, she's already spoken for. Tucker cleans hereyes and allows her to boss him around every day. She's The ONLY ONEthat can tell him what to do: NOW!

If that's not Love, I don't know what is. It's like watching an old couple take care of each other.

Thanks for sending along his weight. That helps.

Kisses and Love to Spice, Mocha, and Eli.

Thanks Carolyn. After having a bunch of problemswith Eli, I'm so glad I had a vet fund but I don't want to use it allup now and then what do I do if I have a problem with them in a fewweeks time? Then I'm out of luck.

I foudn this picture on my computer, it's so cute!

What a little Love! You have no idea how much I just want to scoop that little guy up and run away with him. :run:

I spoke to Kathy and she said that she wouldn't substitute the pastewith the shot from the vet at Eli's age. He's too small and the mix ofthe active ingredient in the paste may not be quite accurate for abunny as it's made for horses. The mixture for rabbits is harder tocontrol with the paste.

Sorry. I know it's not the news you were looking for.

We have used the paste extensively onrabbits. Use a very small amount (less than a pea sizedspot). As with any medication, there is always a chance of atoxic reaction.

According to the manufacturer, the Ivermectin paste does not separate and remains evenly mixed in the tube.
