OUr bun MeatHead has really smelly skunky poops. He is fine eating, drinking and having activities alot as well. Whatcan I do to get rid of the smelly poops. We could smell his poops allthe way out into our living room and he is in our bedroom.

Please give me some advice on something.

Thanks

Angel and MeatHead

i dunno bout that. sometimes my girls lay downsome stink, and i swear they have passed gas. maybe that could be it.do the poops look normal?

Angel, what do the poopies look like?
Amber has left us a cecotope one day and it was a bit "on the nose".

Just an idea, you sure that it's poppies and not pee pee in the litter tray???:ponder:

Sampson went through that. The CalfManna makes the cecotropes just awful. I mean, WOW, they arebad. And I think they make an over abundance of them with theCalf Manna. But at some point, I either got used to it, ortheir his system got used to it and it's not so bad now. Thegirls never seemed to go through it, so I'm thinking I just got used toit.

When I smell the cecals, I just scoop them. Sometimes it'sseveral times a day, but usually just in the morning and again at night.

Hey Jen ,

if you take away the cecals is that bad, i mean maybe i'm mixing up my poop, but are cecals the poops bunnies eat?

Thanks,

Nicole

Oh, I know, but I swear that with the Manna, they make extra, I mean, these things are huge and numerous.I asked my vet, and they are otherwise really cecals, but I do scoopthe regular poops twice a day when they are smelly. They allget to eat whatever cecals they want, but they never eat them all.

I'm telling you, for anyone who doesn't feed the Manna, begrateful! The smell is awful. I swear the normalpoops and the pee even smell worse.

Jen

SPM, have you been wiping out the cage andlitterbox with vinegar? It really helps. Aside fromthat, like cirrustwi said just clean out the cecotropes as soon as younotice them. They smell awful even from rabbits not on CalfManna!

I do everything. MeatHead has not been on calfmanna since August so he does get them stinky ones but for some reasonit smells like a skunk.

All of his poops are normal. We would have our candle burner on to killthe oder but it is so over whelming that it over powers the candle.

Calf Manna is a milk based pellets and does indeed make the poop smell terrible

SweetPea: Diets high in protein can also cause smelly poo.Try increasing fiber to cut down on the smell. Some rabbitsmay just be extra smelly or produce more cecotropes thanothers. Removing them ASAP will help in odor control.

Cool thanks pam. I will def do that from now on.I will keep small bags next to his cage on handy. I am going to use theold litter box he had. I used the pan that was used in an old bun cageI had with the strong wire top. I got tired of smelling his feet butsince the wire top can hurt his feet I don't want that at all.

Oh also I forgot to mention that he dont eat alot of hay.Should I cut the pells down a bit so he can start eating haymore.
No, he should still be having unlimited pellets. Cutting themcould be really detrimental to his growth. Flemish needunlimited pellets for a very long time. If I'm correct, andplease tell me if I'm wrong, they should have unlimited pellets until18 months of age. But I know some people who free feedFlemish for their entire lives.

Some rabbits just don't like hay. Canned pumpkin is a highfiber alternative to hay. Also, check the fiber on youpellets, they should have a minimum of 18% fiber (but 16% is ok for amin as long as it lists a higher max).

Cool not a prob. He gets unlimited pells as wellalways. I use a cup scooper that came with the plastic container forpet food. He gets a full cup. I was just at the dollar store I couldhave picked up a canned punkin. I will stop by again later on.

This weekend my hubby and I are going to pullall of the cages out of the walls so we can sweep up all of the hairsand he is going to lift the corner cage up so I can clean or replacethe clip cause Some of the urine smell got leaked over to the clips sothat is one of the smell but the other is the poops. I switched thelitter pan so he has the higher one and he is more happier with it so Iam happy cause he is. The smell is a bit better but I will pick up allof the smelly ones right away if it is left. He sometimes eat it butnot always.

Maybe it's his scent glands. You might need toclean them. I know there's a thread here about that, too.
