Hi,

To the people that have their rabbits in agility training, did you have to feed your rabbits more pellets or change their diet in any way because of the increase in exercise?

Like if a person was to start training at the gym you would have to take in more calories?

Or do your rabbits just supplement themselves by consuming more hay?

I don't feed any different. I go by what each rabbit needs, so some get more than others becasue of size or metabolism. I don't really do agility that often. When it is the busy time there can be a full weekend event almost every weekend for a month or so and around Easter there can be more smaller events as well. Otherwise, it is usually 1-2 events per month along with the practice. It's not really enough that they would be losing a lot of weight doing it, but a bit of extra pellets on event days can be useful.

Even a day of agility is not too much excercise. For the competition, there is usually 2 rounds of time trial, so the rabbit goes around the whole course twice. Then side by side race, which would be 2-3 heats down the length of the course for each race, a rabbit might only be in 2-4 races. High jump and long jump is mostly just doing the jump but some rabbits will want to go run the course. For warm up, I usually like to do 1-2 laps of the course for each rabbit. So for the day, it is not much more than what a rabbit might do at home if they are running around.

If you were doing agility quite often, then the rabbit might need more food to compensate, but it would have to be a lot of excercise.

The only thing different I do for my buns is the Oxbow Joint Supplement. I figure it can't hurt and with how active our buns are, I'd like to think it's helping prevent arthritis down the road.

I think agility is really awesome, I love seeing them fly over those obstacles! I wish I could get Sophie into it but I don't feel like she is extroverted enough at this point. It seems like a lot of work and dedication!
