Hi! I have a question for rabbit breeders.

Is their a good market for raising rabbits?

I am especially interested in Mini Rexes or Holland Lops. I am most interested in raising them for showing and maybe making stuffed animals with the pelts.

another question:

What do most of you use for a rabbitry?

Could I see pictures?

Thanks!!

There is a decent market for meat/fur rabbits. IF you are going to make ANY money raising rabbits, that's how you'll do it. Most breeders, including myself, don't make much money from pet or show sales. For me, the money I get from selling rabbits doesn't begin to make up the cost of feed. Any extra buys toys for them or medication. I don't turn a profit and from what I understand, most do not.

I have rabbits around the back of my house under an awning to protect them from snow and rain. They are all wire stackers from KW and our brood cages are from our local tack shop, they are justlongerand havea larger door. I'll get pictures this afternoon if you'd like. :)

ALSO! Welcom to the forum! Another Arizona member. :D If you need help getting started or need any regional advice, I can help direct you in the right direction.

Very, very few Rabbit raisers actually return a profit on raising rabbits. Pet sales are inconsistant.... If you are discussing pelts, you will be competing withChinese imports. They sell Rabbit pelts pretty cheap... usually much cheaper than we can raise them for. There are other groups for discussing stuff like this... maybe you should take this question to people that have more experience...

I'd visit Rabbitries in your area to see what works best in your climate. It can get pretty warm in Arizona, so you have to see what people have had successes and failures with, in the area.

If you are thinking of raising rabbits for economic gain, I'm afraid it's going to be tough. Talk to a lot of experienced people before you spend a lot of money on your set-up.

I know that there isn't money making like in dogs or pedigreed cats(so I've heard anyway) What the others have said is true. I do it for the hobby and I'm still working on the correct-almost perfectly marked dutch, in multiple colors (Tort, steels, Grays and blues)I also want to branch into the Chin dutch when and if they get out and around- I want to see the crossing of steels to Chins. . . sorry tangent
I've thought about raising meat rabbits, I know where I was in NY the small animal auction often ended up selling most of it's rabbits for meat, paying anywhere from $1 to $2 for a rabbit. I've done pedigreed rescue's out of there but there was too many to save from being eaten so I only grabbed for Pedigreed ones.
