Is there any proven long-term damage from Baytril in rabbits?

Corky was on it for about 2 months and startedon it at not quite 4 months of age. Dr told me there were no long termaffects known, even at this age...he wouldn't gain weight while on it,but would catch up once he's off. He had one bunny at 6 weeks on it forover a month that did fine as well. Corky's now been off itfor 4 weeks and has put on weight and is doing great! I'venoticed no ill affects from the med.

Corky was on a very high dose for his size as well.

According to Rabbit Health in the 21stCentury, great book by the way, the Baytril and other drugs in thesame class are relatively safe for long term use. A smallnumber of rabbits have developed neurological problems when they havetaken it for over a year or in high doses. It may also causeappetite changes, which may increase over time.

Baytril (enrofloxacin)

Safe, broad spectrum antibiotic. Potential cartilage damage in younganimals. Alters GI flora. CNS stimulation. Injectable andliver-flavored Baytril taste terrible; use cherry-flavored version.
(1) Antacids and sucralfate (used to treat stomach ulcers) may bindwith enrofloxacin and prevent its absorption. Administer thesemedications at least 2 hours apart.
(2) Theophylline (an airway dilator) blood levels may be higher thanusual if this medication is used concurrently with enrofloxacin. Reducedose of theophylline.
(3) Enrofloxacin may increase the kidney damaging properties ofcyclosporine (an immunosuppressive medication used for inflammatorybowel disease).
