Hi everyone!

It's getting warmer here in Minnesota, the temp is in in the 60's F, 70's F and 80's F. My 3 Holland lop buns are living outside in hutches. I haven't noticed many flies, mosquitos, or other bugs but I'm sure I will be noticing more soon. I was wondering if anyone has advice on keeping flies/bugs away from my buns? Of course the don't live in a dirty environment. I clean out their hutches weekly and disinfect with bleach monthly. Also, since they live outside, should I worry about them getting any diseases due to bugs? I give my dog frontline, do I need any protection for my rabbits? My rabbits have been living outside for a few years and I haven't had any trouble but I just worry of course :)

Ours are outside also and we haven't had any problems. Keeping the cages/pans clean is good. We hang fly strips around, too. Don't know if you have problems with fleas but treating the yard and pets helps with that.

In Australia, we have mosquito-borne diseases so they recommend we flywire rabbit hutches. We also have LOTS of flies ("the Aussie salute") so flywire is good to keep the flies out as well. You could consider meshing your hutch/pen.

the other thing i did not know is that snails carry/ transmit fleas and worms! get a flea comb to be sure your bunny doesn't get them. this past summer here, all my pets got fleas. most of them got advocate, but it is revolution, for puppies and kittens, that you use on bunnies (if the need arises), and you may well need to worm them also.
