My doe Pearl gave birth to a litter of three on Monday. Everything had been fine and she has been feeding her babies. This morning I found her sitting in a pool of urine and blood and noticed something unrecognizable hanging out of her. i first believed it was a horribly deformed retained kit and could not understand how she could not pass it as it was hanging way out. we rushed her to the vet and it turned out she had a prolapse. she had to be put under anasthetic to push it back in and got some stitches too. A sapy will be the next step. i did not want to have it done there and then as I was worried she may not feed the babies properly anymore.
It looked as if the babies had not been fed this morning and I put them under her as she was still drowsy from the OP.They did drink for quite a while but they don't look as fat as I would like them to.
Has anyone had an experience like that? I have another (maiden doe) due tomorrow. Is it wise to foster them out to an inexperienced doe when there are about six days between them? How likely is it that she just will resume normal feeding after this. She has had 3 litters last year and there were never any complications. In fact she was ment to be the back up for the other does that are due soonish.
Any advice would be appreciated. thanks.
