My vet doesn't prescribe Lactulose for rabbits; she's heard negative stories from various rabbit-savvy vets who don't use it because they've found (or heard themselves) that it causes diarrhea in buns. I know of one rabbit owner who used flavored/dissolved Epsom salts to help draw/hold fluid in her bun's gut, which worked for a time.
My Zoe's gut just isn't bouncing back to anywhere near normal since her last tooth trim. (She had a bad reaction to the sedative and, I think, developed serious gut slowdown as a result.) I've been giving her sub-Q's and syringed water most days since then, but she's still pass very dry (and decreased) fecals.
Right now, the only thing keeping Zoe going is whatever little fluid does make it to her gut--which seems to be very little--and the gut massages I give her nightly. But she's still retaining too much ingesta material in her body.
Thank you,
Jenk
