I feel like this is just silly and trivialconsidering everything that has happened here in the lastweek. (I think Jen said the same thing in an earlier post)...

Anyone want to share tips on washing and storing veggies? Howis the produce looking in your neck of the woods?

Produce here is looking rather rancid :shock:spinich is theworst! It seems like it is easier to pick out the good piecesinstead of picking out the bad, slimy leaves...as most of the bunchesare bad. Cilantro is looking kinda gross too. I'vetried every supermarket here, with the expensive organic stores havingthe worst looking veggies. I have found that kaleand parsley store the best (look the best too). The dandeliongreens are nasty too....:?

I don't know where you live, but Kroger storesalways have good produce. I've only gone there once but the produce wasAWESOME....wash with a potatoe scrubber, and then to double make surethat they don't rot, store in air tight container or ziplock bag withthe air sucked out of it....

I think that we really shouldn't things aretrivial. I know I initially thought that posting about Elvisnot eating was trivial, but I've realized that Buck would want us tokeep exchanging information, and if we can remember some things he saidalong the way then all the better. He would want us to keeplearning, he was a teacher until the end after all.

I know there was another post about storing veggies somewhere....I'lltry to find it and post the link. At any rate, I buy a ton ofveggies. Between my rabbits, rats, bearded dragons anduromastyx and all the ones at the store I manage, I buy a ridiculousamount. I usually buy the premixed organic baby greens andthen several other kinds of produce (kale, collard greens, cilantro, parsley, carrots, romaine, escarol...). I wash and cut themall on Sundays and make a big salad (I keep the premixed stuffseparate). Then I dry them really well because that seems tokeep them well. I store them in Ziploc containers with apaper towel on the top and the bottom. They seem to stayreally nicely for at least a week.

I go down to the farmers market every week andbuy fresh. There's one lady that saves her carrot tops andbeet tops for me and I get those for free.... :) :) Igenerally take Corky down with me and people get a kick out of that andsometimes give me extra goodies!
