I'm trying to stay realistic. Triscuithas always been smaller, and less robust than her littermate,Disco. Two days ago I removed the nest box. Discotook to the new scene fantastically, Triscuit, not so much.
Since I don't know Triscuits level of energy before I removed the box,I cannot tell if he/she's getting worse, or just the same, but there isa distinct difference in the development of the two kits, not just size.
Also, Triscuit's eyes are having a hard time staying open. Ihave to gently cotton ball them every day. Even when they areopen, they are half closed. He/she's just not as healthy asthe other kit. I don't think he/she has mucoidenter-whatever, but I did notice some hard sticky stuff stuck to thefur around the tail and cleaned it off. I am doing everythingI can to keep this little nugget going. Disco is eatingpellets and hay and exploring the cage a lot. I've seenTriscuit eating a little hay, but mostly sleeps and snuggles againstmom. I've been hand feeding a little water with terramycinevery few hours or so. Hutch water has terramycin aswell. I even woke up in the middle of the night a few timesto check on them. The doe is a superb mother and is doatingon her kits every second. She cares very much for Triscuitand Disco, it's rather wonderful to watch. She really seemsto enjoy her babies.
I'm a little put off by the health information I've found inthe books and the net about sick baby bunnies. The impressionI get is "Don't do too much to save a sick bunny...they never grow upto be worth anything so why bother" Urrg!:X
I think I'm doing everything I can, but if there is any advice, Iappreciate your thoughts and taking the time to cheer Triscuit on to ahealthy future.
Does anyone think I should maybe supplement her diet with kit formula? The mom seems to be nursing well.
The kits are 20 days old today.
