very recently, as in about a week or so ago, howie started pooping and peeingin his food bowl,it gets to be a bit of a mess as it mixes with the food and becomes one big nasty clump, is there any way i get him to stop doing this?

How much food does he have? Whereabouts is his food bowl?

Has his behaviour changed in any other way?

You could try getting one of the food bowls that attaches into the cage side and attach it so it's high enough so he can't go to the toilet in it but low enough so that he can still eat from it.

Also, if you clean the food bowl with a distilled vinegar and water solution that should deter him from doing that.

Is he litter trained other than this? What do you use in his litter tray?

Is the dish big enough for him to sit in? If it is, definitely get a smaller one.

I use quick lock crocks for my feed dishes. They're elevated off the cage floor that way and they also can't tip them over.

mine seems to do this too. I just keep it clean. He likes to sit in the one dish while he eats out of the other so I keep the dishes FAR apart so he can't do that.

Bebe insisted on using her food dishes as her litter boxes, so I got some other food bowls for her and let her use the first dishesas the litter box. With those dishes, she has perfect litter box habits. :D

Reminds me of Timmy who will only use a litter box if he has two - one to lay in and a separate to poop/pee in. If I take away one, he'll only sleep in the remaining box and he'll pee all over the cage floor.

One of the Holland babies that I sold does that as well. he told me he just started to use a second bowl and he won't go to the bathroom anywhere but that first bowl. It's kind of funny thinking about it.

:)-lets use rabbit logic,.rabbit-thinking,.if i don,t like it/ i can get in it,,oh-and do my business too-great../..i use timothy/orchard grass(hay)-for hay bins and poop boxes-that way they get their 70%-fiber in the diet,,,,obviously you can not leave his offering to be eaten,-icky-poo,,..//,i feed purina rabbit chow (one oz. per# of bun daily)-doesnot require a very big bowl and water crock and bottle...sincerely james waller:blushan:

he gets lots of food, and i put it on the other side of the cage as his "potty corner".he's pretty well potty trained unless something spooks him then he'll pee on the floor(this only happened maybe twice), but he'll drag his food bowl over to his potty corner and go in it, this is the same food bowl he's had since october, and the same food

maybe i'll get him a second food bowl to eat from
