So about a week ago we took in a stray Chihuahua. She hasn't been claimed, and as long as it stays that way, we plan on keeping her. She has settled right into our family. Today was the first time she actually hung out with my bunnies with me. She didn't get into the pen with me, but she sat outside the entire time I played and took pictures. Now she has swelling in both eyes and one side of her snout. =( She looks so pathetic, it's hard not to laugh. It didn't happen immediately, but it's the only thing I can think could have triggered an allergic reaction. At first we though she may have got stung near her eye, but shortly after, her left eye started going down, then he right eye started swelling up, and they're both really watery. On top of that, the right side of her snout is swelled a bit, and she keeps biting all over. Something caused her to have an allergic reaction and I'm pretty sure it was the bunnies!

I've never heard of a dog with an allergy to bunnies. It could definitely be the hay though. For now, dogs can have benadryl, though I'm not sure of the dosage, and I'd get her something to make her more comfortable.

I feel silly now. I didn't even think about the hay. That makes a little more sense. =) I'll call my vet in the morning and see if they'll tell me how much Benadryl I can give my pup.

Don't feel silly. Most people wouldn't think of a dog being allergic to hay. I'm just a bit more experienced in dog allergies as I have a golden that is allergic to wheat and corn. And I know some of the things we had to check out when she was having her issues.

I fostered a dog with food allergies, but we never pin pointed exactly what it was. We just happened to find a food that worked with him relatively easily.

Thanks. Now I don't feel so bad. I was afraid my pup would never be able to go near the bunnies lol

One of my dogs doesn't care about the bunnies but the other dog isn't allowed anywhere near them because I'm pretty sure he wants to eat them. And I'm pretty sure he's allergic to grain. Are bunnies prone to allergies? I've never heard of a bunny with allergies.
