Polish babies on the way!

Matthew's Polish doe "Tefani" is busy pulling furand lining her nest this morning. Her due date is actuallytomorrow, but I hope she kindles today because I'll be leaving at 5 amfor a show tomorrow and will be gone all day.

Here's Matthew and the mommy-to-be:

I'll be judging (don't know which breeds) -- there are only 3 judges,so I imagine it's going to be a very long, longday.

Since it's just a day trip, my oldest son and I will also be taking a few Hollands to show.

SIX beautiful babies!!!!!!! I'm so excited, you'd think this was my first litter of bunnies

Matthew couldn't believe how many there were! There appearsto be 2 broken blacks (like mom) and 4 blacks. I just lookedat them briefly because it's rather cool in the rabbitry with the fansrunning and I didn't want the babies to get chilled.

Daddy is a chocolate, but there didn't appear to be any chocolates inthe litter With 6 babies, there are enough to pretty muchindicate that mommy does *not* carry the chocolate gene(Each parent would have to contribute a chocolate gene forthere to be chocolates in the litter).

Matthew will be giving one of the babies to the breeder he got the pair from.

I really needed something to lift my mood. This is the doesfirst litter, and it appears that she is going to be an outstandingmommy

We certainly are!!!!! Holland Lops arenotoriously stubborn about producing winter babies. Despitehaving dealt with this for over 15 winters, I was getting ratherdiscouraged about not having any babies of my own.

Matthew's himalayan doe had a litter last week -- 2 were dead, but 1little one held on for a few days. Matthew doted on thatlittle baby and tried so hard to save her. It washeartbreaking when she died One of my Holland doesretained a kit, but passed it (dead) after a few days.

So, after experiencing so many set backs,it was soexcitingto see Matthew's face when he peered into thenestbox.

Awwww, i'm so happy for you and Matt. You should've seen my face when ipeaked into the nest box on thursday. I popped up onto my tiptoes,dropped my jaw and did a sort of unclassified excited, high-pitchedsqueal, i started jumping up and down and went and told my mom (stilljumping up and down)

Sound's like you and Matt've had a rough time with your does and their litters, glad one finally came through.

The Polish is an erect earredsmall breed (a little larger than the Netherland Dwarf).
