I contacted them about stacking cages, that I could pick up at the show on the 3rd of June. I wanted 3 cages, 30"x30" and saw they didn't have any that big in their catalog. So I contacted them, and they're special making them for me. :) And, the best part? They're going to be just about the same price as the cheapie TSC cages. And the new set will be on casters. That is going to make cage cleaning/disinfecting soooooooo much easier! Right now I have to have the kids help me carry the stacked cages outside to clean/hose/disinfect/sun dry.

And! If that wasn't cool enough, get this! My "ideal" cage is one that has the entire front (from 2" from the bottom, to the top. And probably 2" in from the sides) flip down. 1) To make it easier to get the big bunnies out (our flabby shouldered Cals, that got the faults at the last show, were the result of picking them up by the scruff...which is the ONLY way to get the rabbit out with only one hand). 2) For whatever reason, Adeline prefers having her babies outside the nest box. So I put a wooden floor in there, with shavings, and "sideboards".

Anyway, to make a long story somewhat shorter, we're going to discuss, in depth, what I want...and they're going to build it. They are awesome!!

So now I can start buying new cages (as needed) for new stock we keep...and slowly replace the TSC cages as they rust out. If I had unlimited funds, I'd sell off all the TSC cages and buy all new ones from Pointer Hill. But, alas, that isn't the case. LOL

Yeah I haven't been terribly fond of the TSC cages, I have a set of 30 x 30's and a set of 24 x 24's and a set of 30 x 30's from Southern States(THere's are Havahart's- same basic design just a different name on them) so I built my own 30 x 36's for my broken New Zealands out of 2x3, 2x4's and I got them made strong.
WIsh I had a company like that around me, but as my homemade cages start to wear out, I'll just build new ones!

Heather, I wish I could get what was in my head actually made. What I would absolutely love would be this:

Picture a 3-shelf bookcase, that's 18" high between shelves. Each end of the "case" would be the wooden frame with wire. The depth would be 30" and the length would be 36". The floor would be wooden, but removable (you could slide it out) for cleaning/replacing as needed. The entire front would be just a frame with wire, and the entire front would flip down.

My neighbor build cupboards, cabinets, and just about everything else. The next time I see him out, I'm going to go over and see if he can help me plan/design/build them. I think it would be cheaper, in the long run. And it would get their feet off the wire bottoms.

But, until then, the Pointer Hill cages will work just fine. I just can't believe the difference in metal wire between the TSC/pet store cages and the "real" rabbit cage wire.

Thanks, I'll have to check that out! I have a HUGE Flop doe that has HUGE poop balls. They don't fall through the cage flooring (which is 1/2"x1"). I'm going to replace the wire in our only hutch with 1"x1" wire, and hope that'll help. I'm headed to Lowe's now. :)
