Hey All!

Today i went to the pet store to pick up some food and hay and other stuff. While there i started asking about this REALLY COOL cage they had there. I was going to buy 2, one for Buggs and one for Oreo.. well... the lady that worked there started asking about my rabbits and then asked if i could take 1 more. She told me that someone dropped off this rabbit in the front of the store in a box. I wasnt so sure at first because, 3 rabbits, a dog, some fish, 2 young kids and a husband, NO JOKE! I decided to take a look anyways.. man, i fell in love. She told me that she thinks the rabbit was abused... There are cuts ALL over her back!!! They are scabbing already, but they didnt look fun at all. She's also pretty damn skinny. So i said SURE. Sooo the other 2 cages will have to wait.. i justbought heran XL for now, i'll figure something out later. So we got home and i let her roam around. She seems a bit timid, but nothing time and love cant heal. My main concern is this. She has nipples, big nipples... this might sound ignorant, but. Is she preggo?!?!?! I wouldnt know what to do!!!!!!!!! How cani tell? I have been so busy lately that i havent been able to really search for a vet. The cuts are pretty much healing, can i put Neosporin on them? I will take more pix of the cuts and stuff if you all want. My phone is acting up so i was only able to upload one pic to my photobucket. Any questions, concerns, advice, anything really would be much appreciated!! Havent decided on a name yet as this just happened an hour ago!!

Is she lactating? Try squeezing the nipple to see if milk comes out, because if she is lactating then she's probably pregnant or she might have already had a litter. If there isn't any milk then maybe her original owner used her as breeding stock. I haven't had much experience with pregnant bunnies but our dog [who has had multiple litters of puppies] has large nipples from feeding her puppies. Also if she is indeed pregnant you should be able to kind of feel the babies inside of her depending on how far along she is. You can also look for certain behaviors. A bunny with babies on the way will act a little more aggresive than usual and often times they'll rip their fur out for nesting material.

Ill wait till she's done eating, she just started eating and I dont want to bother her at all!!
She isnt the least bit aggressive, on the contrary actually, super sweet. When you say rip their fir out for nesting material, will they rip it out enough to leave scabs? If yes, then that's probably what she has going on there. I'm really hoping she is not pregnant, if she is, well, then we'll figure something out, i hope lol.

They usually pull fur out from their dewlap/undersides. With scabs on her back I'd take her to a vet to make sure she doesn't have any parasites. Please keep her quarantined from your existing rabbits until she can get vet checked. Also wash your hands, change clothes, etc. in between holding her and them.

The vet should be able to tell you if she's pregnant as well.

What do the cuts look like? Are they bite marks? I wouldn't use neosporin because the rabbits will lick it. When oliver had a bite on his back I used Campho Phenique.

Definitely quarantine any new rabbit, especially one with health issues, at least until a vet visit.

My guess would be that she had a litter & finished nursing & the former owners dumped her & kept the babies. It's just a guess, but usually nipples don't enlarge until near the end of the pregnancy, when you'd almost surely see or feel that she was pregnant.

Neosporin is what the rabbit books recommend, regular Neosporin, not Neosporin Plus.

it is possible that she was pregnant before which is most likely. But its possible shes not if she is pretty soon shell start acting cranky and making a nest. but defiantly do what JennaLynn said that is the best way to tell.
good luck:)

I ended up going back to the pet shop because she turned really really mean, and i was a bit scared lol. When i got there i wanted to talk to a lady that works there that knows A LOT about rabbits (she was on her lunch break when i first went). She told me that she was pregnant, and didnt think she was carrying that many. I almost cried, I really have no idea what to do with baby rabbits and i dont think it would be the right thing or the responsible thing for me to keep them, sell them, raise them, what ever! She asked me if I would be willing to give her the rabbit...she said she had a change of heart when we left. I was sooo happy to hear her say that, i gave her to the lady without hesitation and she was going to take her home.

Thank you all for all of the replies!!!!
