I NEED HELP ASAP! While I was sleeping my rabbit got out of her cage. How? I have no clue. It was closed last night and for the 2 years I have owned her she has never tried this because she gets free roam time in a safe space. Since she couldn’t be supervised while I was sleeping she got herself into trouble. She found food and nibbled on brown cinnamon sugar pop tarts. The pop tarts were broken apart but it looks like she only ate the outsides not the frosting and filling part. She also found one of those small wrapped chocolate eggs that you get at easter and she nibbled on half of that. The wrappers were still there so it looked like she did not eat any foil but she could of had a small amount. I just woke up with her playing in her cage with the cage door wide open and a food mess on the ground. She is acting normal but I know rabbits digestive systems are so fragile and that could go south any minute. I have no clue what time she got out but it was some time between 12am and 11am. I live in a small town and the closest er vet is almost 2 hours away and I don’t even know if they take rabbits. Please help.

I would just call the vet, tell him/her about this situation. Maybe the vet will instruct you to rush the bunny to him/her.

What I would def. do is keep an eye on the bunny constantly. Supply him/her large amount of hay (no pellets) and cold water. If she/he is eating and pooping and the poops are ok, behaving normally its all ok then. Was it milk chocolate? if yes, than it's a relief somewhat since milk chocolate has much less material which is dangerous to Rabbits.

I heard stories where they ate all kinds of stuff and nothing happened. Fingers crossed.

From what you've described, I wouldn't get too worried. She's acting normally and that's a good sign. Rushing her to the vet unnecessarily can cause added stress which can exacerbate the problem.

Feed her plenty of hay and refresh it throughout the day to encourage more hay eating. Keep an eye on her poos. The hay will push things through.
