I have started going to this company that pays you for the plasma they take from you, trying to bring in alittle extra cash to the household budget.

Does anyone in the US know if receiving money for the plasma you give is taxable? I asked the place where I have been donating and I got a really vague answer. In fact it didn't answer my question at all.

Thank you in advance!

I think it's considered income but I'm not sure how it's reported. You'd think someone at the donation center would know.

I knew a lot of college kids that did this back in the day.:)

I believe that if you are paid more than $600 in a year, then theyare supposedto issue you a 1099, but not all places do. If you don't get a 1099, then it's up to you whether to report it or not.

Man, I wish we got paid for donating plasma/platelets/blood here. I'm sure if they paid us more people would go and do it.

How much do you get for donating plasma?

We don't get paid for blood usually here. I can't stand needles but couldn't give anyhow due to pre-metobolic syndrome (diabetes before diabetes).... I wish I could - I have a rare blood type :(

The plasma-only centers that Wabbitdad is talking about are for-profit companies. I forget what they pay, it might depend on the area you live in. Usually the plasma goes to medical products, as opposed to stocking in hospitals for direct use. Blood, platelets, etc. (plasma for direct use, too) are generally donated to/taken by non-profit organizations like the Red Cross.

I used to work at a fairly large blood center.;)

Wish I could donate blood, but I faint an hour afterward every time and don't know why. I certainly have enough body mass to spare a few pints!

BioLife pays $20 first visit of the week and $30 for the second in a week.

I usually donate blood, but due to my wife being out of work and a bill that HAS to be paid at the end of March, I am doing this. After my wife (Wabbitmom) is back to work, the plasma donation will support my wabbit habit.:)

I tried to donate plasma when I was in college, for extra cash. When I went in, I was told I had "bad veins" and wouldn't be able to donate, ever. Strangely, when I go to the doctor and have to give blood for a test or something, the nurse *always* tells me I have great veins and am easy to get blood from. :pssd:
