Does anyone have anything in their will or plans to take care of the four legged kids? In February of this year my dad was murdered and did not have a will. He had a girlfriend and it's just caused a lot of controversy since it didn't say 'you get this' 'you get that' etc. I'm only 26 but it has made me think more about the future and that I want my husband to know what I would want (and vice versa). My dad had a dog and the girlfriend has kept her although I was going to get her recently but the girlfriend freaked. I want to make sure my 'kids' are protected and taken care of.

At my current job I have life insurance so that could be set aside (part of it anyways) to help take care of them but what do you all have? I don't have friends to take my pets on...just me and my husband.

I have life insurance and a will... so does my partner. My insurance and will is only for my animals... everything else is very minor in my mind. My partner will be responsible for my animals, and if for any reason he cannot care for them, (like he is ill, or also has passed) my best friend will be in charge of them and I have left instructions for her and for him.

If you don't have anyone you trust to care for your animals I would find a group you trust very much, either a rescue or animal sanctuary, and leave your animals to them with instructions. I would contact a sanctuary that offers a permanent home to their animals and discuss it with them in person if you have no alternatives. That would be what I would do anyway.

This is absolutely something to think of at any age and have taken care of. You never know when it will be needed. I've had too many dogs come into my rescue after their owners have died who didn't have a will...

Hmmmm....now you got me thinking....if i were to die tomorrow i don't even have a husband to take care of my pets. along with Liffy i have a huge avairy of birds in my apt. i guess i always assumed the doug (my better half just not married to me half) would care for them. maybe i better do some planning of my own.
