Today I got Sabrina a pine cone. I baked it in the over for 2 hrs at 200 degrees, and she loves it! She doesn't seem to be eating much of it but it is breaking in some spots and I think she may be eating some of the little bits. Is this safe? Should I take it away? Right now I am only letting her have it while supervised and I will take it away when I go to bed just in case. I just don't want my bun to get sick!

I give Toby pinecones and he loves them selectively. There'll be days when he is chewing and eating one all day and he can go for weeks ignoring it on the floor... Then one day he'll pick up where he left off and have a ball with it again. He's never had any issues even when he eats bits of it.

Isobel would randomly play with the ones I got her....they never did anything bad to her...

Phew! Thanks everyone. I put it back in her bun room today but I won't put it in her cage when I go out, so that she doesn't get tired of it...she has enough toys in there already anyways!!!!!!!

That's fine. Rabbits are used to eating sticks, bark, and pinecones in the wild. I wouldn't let her eat it all at once of course. It's good that you baked it a bit too. I'll never forget when I had first gotten Tony and couldn't really afford toys, plus I didn't know what he liked. I got a twig from outside and offered it to him, and he ate it like a strand of hay!

One time Toby was crunching on the remains of a pinecone... He was sitting down and had it hidden in his paws and he was hunched over like a squirrel. I didn't actually SEE what was making crunching noises. I only saw him chewing on what looked like his paws. I thought he was chewing his nails off! Scared the daylights out of me!!!
