"Todd" won the Polish chocolate sr. buck class!

Thought I was "safe" from bringing any more rabbits home by leaving allempty carriers at home. It didn't work . . . ournew addition is a steel American. (steel is not an acceptedvariety). Beautiful baby girl with a 4 generation pedigree --purebred American. They are avery rare breed so Iam happy to have her. Will be breeding her when she is oldenough.

Americans are a very rare breed of ARBA accepted rabbit. Theyhave mandolin type and are showable in blue and white (our new girl isa blue/white cross) --her color is not a bigsurpriseas most whites (REWS) are agoutis and often carry thesteel gene. The Americans weigh 9-11 pounds atmaturity and have flyback fur and erect ears, defining them from thesimilar Beveren with "V" ear carriage and a rollback coat. The blue American is a very dark blue, where the Beveren is a lavenderblue. Another difference is the white American hasred eyes, where the white Beveren has bright blue eyes.

A friend brought her up to me to try to stump me :) I got iton the first try LOL (Flemish was too obvious -- I knew she couldn't bethat and wasn't the correct steel color).

When we got home, Steph was really close -- she recognized the mandolintype right away, but thought the doe might be a Beveren (the doe stillhas her soft baby coat).

Our new American baby is only about 6 weeks old. She'll should mature at a little over 10 lbs. based on the matureweights in her pedigree. (does mature at 10-12 lbs. -- bucks are alittle smaller)

A little trivia on the Polish -- the Polish breed (in the US) isactually not a Dwarf breed -- just a very small rabbit. Anice feature because you don't have many of the common reproductiveproblems associated with true Dwarfs.

I'm kicking back and taking it easy this coming weekend because I have a long trip to New York to judge the week after.
