I am very annoyed, I just spent 10 minutes typing a reply out only for it to not post and I have now got to type everything again.

I'm personally not too impressed with the way p@h keep/treat their animals.
They are not kept in big enough cages for the amount of animals (I once saw 20 syrian hamsters in a square foot cage), they aren't properly sexed, they don't advise or sell appropriate/safe products and instead of taking poorly animals to the vet they have a room in which they leave them to die. I know this as a friend of mine worked there for a few days and told me all these horrors. The things she saw were so terrible that she left 2 days after she started!

However there have been some improvments lately and I know that some stores are much better than mine, and some are worse. I think it really depends where you live.

The other thing I don't approve of is that the get their animals from mass 'farm' breeding places, where animals are bred non stop and in awful conditions. If you have a choice I was always buy from a rescue/breeder rather than a shop anyway.

Again I know some stores are better and some are worse, this is just what I think of the one near me.

You can cut a rats nails, yes.

If you need to know anything about rats and their care, then feel free to ask me....I know A LOT about them :).

I was in our pets at home yesterday and suprisingly all the animals looked really healthy with no over crowding.

I noticed they have an adoption area which Ive never seen before. How long has this been going on?

I have mixed views on pets at home, as far at pets shops go they are pretty good with their animal care, howeverI still don't thinkthey are good enough in my book. They often sex rabbits wrong, and a lot ofpeople end up with a litter from their 'two girls'.:?

They also don't seem to know enough about rabbits and therefore can't educate their customers properly. I also wish they would sell bigger, better hutches and runs, although at least they have 2 RWA recommended hutches now. I think they are making the effort, but they still need to do a lot more.

hi mollz

thanks for your infomation

its funny wiould should say about overcrowding with rabbits

hamsters are the same i think there bred in the thousands over here

cruel i think

I dont like pets @ home. I bought a hutch from them only a few weeks ago and the doors already snapped off:grumpy:. I was tempted to apply for a job there a few weeks ago, bringing down the system from within :biggrin2:

I always buy my food etc from there, but I would never buy an animal.

I have so far been there 3 times this month. The first time I went all their animals had dissapeared and they were having a massive clear out.

The next time I visited the cages were much bigger, and I was really impressed with it all... But I went a few days ago again and I saw a crowd of staff looking into the rodent section. They were saying " I want to move them out before the mum kills the others" and they were proding in the cage. That totally put me off it all! I couldnt believe it. They are useless at sexing etc.

My ex boyfriend also bought a hamster from there once, and it died a week later. He got a refund and bought another one, it also died not long after.

So it was off to another place!

I would only buy food from there. nothing else!

Hah! I applied for a job there about a year ago, and they had a system that if you got more sales of animals you get a bonus. Just like you would in a clothes shop!:X
